Smell is fruits, yeast, malts, and sweet. Taste is also fruity, lively body full of CO2 (usual for unibroue) and rich. Went pretty well with some smoked pork and cornbread. I think this one is better than the 2005 ediition. decaturstevo (2004), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 2, 2006 A hazy orange yellow pour with a strong apple aroma. A tart spicy flavor with a slightly fizzy palate. Another beer that may have been better fresh. snowden719 (130), USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 26, 2006 Pours orange with a hazy body and a small to medium white head. Aroma is dominated by light fruits (mostly apriocot, white grapes, some apple/pear) with a bit of yeastiness. Flavor is white grapes, apricot, bit of orange, with a touch of sourness at the end. Small amount of bitterness is present in the finish. Finish is not especially long, but not short. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 26, 2006 This one did not age as gracefully as I expected - the 2004 La Terrible I had recently though aged beautifully. This pours clear bronze with an off-white head. Aroma is extra fruity - rich nectarine stands out, there is also eoms spice and Unibroue yeast. Starts our sweet and fruity with lots of the netarine qualities from the aroma. Finish gets a bit spicy with a lot of the ABV coming through. Not as complex as I expect from Unibroue and the alcohol is not well hidden at all. If you still have this sitting around it is probably best to have it now as much more age will probably not be kind to this brew - pity. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/20 | Aug 26, 2006 Big sour medicinal aroma. Semitranslucent tanned gold. aroma reminiscent of unibroue quelque chose, some kind of strange teah and herbs. Smells potent and frightening. Thin, tight off-white head. Sweet herbal floral medicine. Notably potent. A normal belgian golden is faintly detectable underneath all the special flavors. To me, these kind of special flavorings are a bit sickening especially when combined with sweetness, but sickly in any case. It has a nice carbonated light palate with a lasting finish of -- what I don’t like. A unique beer unlike some of their anniversary beers, but suited to a very particular taste which I don’t share. I hope to stay away from these "cardamom" beers in the future as I find it...unpleasant. It’s a bit like a sweettart candy that’s been through the washing machine. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 23, 2006 Translucent and polished brass in color with a fuzzy off-white head resembling celestial mold. Ginger, honey and coriander are unmistakably present in the aroma, and a chewy, sweet biscuit scent isn’t far behind. Cream soda-like offshoots give aromatic recognition to the cardamom presence as well, along with cotton blossoms and hints of vanilla dusted lilacs. Effervescence is encapsulating and buoyant as-can-be and the flavors mire any ol’ Belgian strong ale with a hefty dose of vanilla phenols and cardamom spicing. Dryer traits are immediately beckoned in the wake of effervescence. All the while, honey coddles nectar. Aged baguettes with coriander and a french vanilla glaze give a bready sweetness. A touch of sauvignon grapes are put under by the uber Unibroue spicing. When partnered with the palate sprits, it’s nearly mouth numbing. Ginger root twines around fields of sundered wheat, cracking in an autumn draught. Alcohol warms the tonsils in the recession. pintbypint (1010), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
