Opened on 8/24/2006. Beautiful dark brown/amber color. Thick, foamy head that fades quickly but leaves behind a thin layer of tiny bubbles around the rim. Characteristic Unibroue aroma: floral, fruity (fresh blueberries, strawberries, pears, apples), dried fruits (raisins, dates), malty, spicy, and a hint of a yeasty breadiness. Rich malty flavors, fresh fruit (apples, pears, blueberries, blackberries, maybe banana?), dried fruits (plums, raisins, dates), lemon zest, spices (coriander, nutmeg), roasted grains/some breadiness.

750ml - Aroma is inticing and delicious. Unibroue yeast, spice, bubblegum, and sweet black cherry. Pours deep deep red with a small off-white head and good lacing. Flavor matches aroma with dark fruit and alcohol showing up as well. Palate is sticky. Another winner from Unibroue and I will have to find a replacement for my cellar.

I bought this 750 ml bottle a month ago in NYS and am pretty excited about it. Pours opaque burgandy brown with super thin off white head. Aroma is grapes, spices, malt, and alcohol. Flavor is cloves, cinnamon, bread, grapes, cherries, a slight alcohol warmth, and low wheat & plum finish. This is slightly sweeter than I expected, but very delicious none the less.

Bottle. Uh oh! Another belgian strong anniversary ale from unibroue? It can’t be true! You knw, they could do a variation on one of their other beer styles one year, it might be nice. Hey wait! At least it’s not golden, it’s rich brown and smells like a ton of coriander but with the good kind a funky yeastz. a decent tight beige head. Aroma is strong. IT tastes sour with a tough of bitter, not much sweets at all. It’s like drinking mustard. Not bad due to poor quality per se, but just not to my taste at all. It’s so full of coariander it might as well be coriander syrup, this stuff is almost salty too. Actually, bad taste is bad quality. Get this crap out of here, i am so sick of "belgian" flavored coriander overload "strong" beers where it just tastes like sour coriander soup and alcohol. I hate this beer but if that’s what your into, why not sprinkle some extra spices on the top to make it even more over the top! Pow! Flavorful, but bad! finish lasts a while... not that I want it to.

(05.13.06) Sampled at DiCarlo’s Spring beer tasting event. Bottle. 10% ABV. Poured hazy brown with small white head. Soft carbonation. Spicy (coriander?) and sweet malt aroma. Medium-bodied ale that starts with moderate sweetness and spicy, fruity, toffee, and some hop flavors. Finished with light malt fade. Though sweeter and having less complex character compared to Unibroue edition 2004, this is an excellent ale nonetheless.

Classic Unibroue, which could be good or bad, depending on how you take that comment. Very deep brown, nice, small but lasting head. Pretty. Aromas of cherry, dark fruit, and a definite woodsy note. Typical Unibroue yeast flavor, with loads of dark fruits with an almost tropical underpinning of mango like flavors. Figs and strawberries, this is complex, with a hint of oak. A delicately spicy finish with a hint of anise. Very nice, but not breaking any new ground for the brewery. Of course, when you make beers this consistently good, why mess with success?
