Very unusual for a strong-type--its flavor was much more savory (indeed, almost stock-like) than it was malty in the traditional sense. Still it is an excellent specimen--a champion breeder. footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2005 Deep dark brown with large tan heads. Held up to the light it displays a deep garnet is the only penetrable color visable. Lacing also settles nicely. Aroma is quite plesant. Big malt and nice big fruits are up front along with a sweet biscut malt. Medium sized roasted malt with a bit of a bite. Creamy full feel pushes for a smooth sweet flavor flanked by a raisin and nice hop presence. Good full feel and finish. Hopistotle420 (1178), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 15, 2005 Pours a deep ruddy brown/chestnut. Nose is sweet and spicy, with notes of raison, cocoa, yeast, clove, banana, bubblegum, maple, berry, ripened plum. These flavors follow through to a somewhat syrupy/oily, lively carbonated, velvety smooth body. I kinda agree with Oakes here. I bet this one will age quite well though. Will have to lay a few down to rest. PorterPounder (3146), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 15, 2005 Habersham Beverage Warehouse, Savannah, Ga. - 750 ml bottle. Pours a deep, dark chestnut brown with a thin and fading mocha head. Aroma has some fruit, cherries perhaps, and wisps of alcohol - not as complex as expected and desired. Flavor has some cherries, chocolate, a bit of candied sugar. Smooth, clean plate, just the right amount of carbonation. Very good Belgian, just not as complex as expected. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 13, 2005 Loose head with a little too much carbonation and a dark malt aroma with a mild suggestion of dark cherries, banana, and spices. Pronounced alcohol in the taste leaves a warm finish with a sweet, yeasty, banana bread flavor. willblake (2183), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 13, 2005 05.11.05 750ml bottle. Cork says 4-5, whatever that means. Ruby mahoganey pour. Thin head fades to nothing. Rum raisin aromas, black cherry, boozy, yeasty. Certianly a Unibroue brew. Tastes ripe with old fruits, a bit sour, tons of yeasts. Strong alcohol presence. Fairly thin bodied. Lots of bananas foster, savory. Solid, standard Unibroue offering, not mindblowing but tasty. I should have let this one sit for a year like I intended.
