pete4999 (121), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 22, 2009 Orange-yellow pour. Nice big head – cream white. Fruity, but with a perfect spice involved. Tastes like bread, citrus fruit + a good spice. Exactly the spice you look for with a tripel – not overpowering, but enough bite. Tons of yeast in the bottom of the bottle. One of my favorite beers…delicious. rowbigred (10), Lincoln, Nebraska, USA Jun 20, 2009 Very strong yeast flavor. Poured from a bottle, and seemed kind of flat, very little head, no residue on the sides of the glass. Color was a sickly between-amber-and-yellow. Flavor was strong and yeast/wheaty, very much like a German Heffe-Weizen. The beer also had a sharp bite and alcoholic aroma. Overall good, not great. zizzybalubba (338), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA Jun 19, 2009 Updated: Oct 25, 2009750 mL bottle from Total Wine (best before 02-27-2011). Golden yellowish-orange pour with a fizzy white head. Aroma of bread, yeast, and light citrus. Seems like I’m being lazy but the taste is the same. This is a very solid Belgian-style Tripel and very few are better...I had an older bottle of this beer last night (the best before date was 10/24/2009) and I must say it is better with a little less age. There was some apple and pear that I detected that I do not remember from my initial tasting but overall I enjoyed this more when it was fresh. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 18, 2009 Murky light orange brown brew. The pour produced a huge white rocky head with ok retention and a decent ammount of lacing. Huge HUGE amount of sediment. Pored it all in later on and the holes in the crown allowed the light to penetrate the murk like the sun breaking through the clouds. The aroma is musty, orange (barely there), cloves, cooked meat and strong overall. The taste is orange, light yeast, lots of spice and a bit tangy. Fruity too. Excellent flavour. My favourite Unibroue beer. The mouthfeel is very smooth, a bit dry and finishes with a nice bitterness. Medium to full bodied. Good stuff! Cirrhosis (610), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 8, 2009 "Body looks to be a honey brown or maybe burnt gold the small but dense cap just won’t go away and being constantly replenished by lots of bubbly carbonation, the body is very hazy with sand like sediment resting at the bottom of the glass. Strong aggressive aroma, wheat and yeast dominate with notes of caramel, and spices (probly cloves) the sent is a touch sour but very complex and yummy. The flavor is not as intense as the aroma but still very ample, alcohol is noticeable but blends nicely with the wheaty tasting malts, I’m getting some citrus notes in the finish. This stuff has tons of flavor wheat, yeast, spice all blending together for a sweet smooth beer. Mouth feel is spectacular smooth full excellent carbonation and has a clean finish. High quality brew tasty and smooth, this was one of the very first high quality craft brews I ever had back in the day and its is just as good now as it was then." sirpsycho (342), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy, pale orange, thick, long-lasting white head, soapy lacing. Aroma is yeast and sweet fruit (tangerine, grapes and orange). Sweet fruit (same as above) and the ever present Unibroue yeast signature dominate the flavor profile, some very subtle spice notes (coriander, maybe clove ?). Finish is dry and yeasty. OzarkElmo (117), Poplar Bluff, Missouri, USA May 31, 2009 Pours a hazy golden/orange with sizeable white head. Very fruity aroma, lots of carbonation, spices, yeast evident. Slight bit of alcohol comes through in the finish, which is moderately dry. Good offering from Unibrou, but to me is does not fit the "Abbey Tripel" style. More like a fruity version of a Duvel. Davros (201), Australia May 30, 2009 Updated: May 31, 2009Gusher. Amber pour, lots of yeast particles. Large, persistent, off-white head.
Aroma is mostly belgian doughy yeast and some spicy phenols. Subtle alcohol, citrus, banana and hops also present.
Flavour is more of the Unibroue doughy yeast, mild grassy hops and a hint of lemon. A solid, but not over the top, punch of alcohol follows.
Strong alcoholic warming on the palate. Creamy body but too much carbonation.
Take your time with this one, more flavour comes through once the carbonation has died down a little.
