monkeychugg55 (214), Joliet, Illinois, USA Oct 16, 2009 Pours a hazy orange with a small white head that dissolved rather quickly. The aroma is on the sweet side with clove, banana, and light spices. The flavor is similar with some noticeable alcohol. The mouthfeel is creamy and frothy with some prickly carbonation. Has a slightly warm, crisp finish. Not bad, but I think its a bit past its prime. crackedmachine (82), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 15, 2009 Cloudy yellow-orange with a light-medium white head. Aroma of yeast and citrus. Flavor is distinctly sweet and bitter with some alcohol in the finish. The sweetness comes on a little too strong, leaving a briefly cloying taste at the end. Decent, but not among my favorite tripels. Oddefellowe (28), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 15, 2009 Golden brown with an off-white head. Tasted notes of young white grapefruit, a mild floral arrangement, and light hops. Highly drinkable, but definitely not abrasive considering the high ABV. Great beer! mcberko (124), British Columbia, Canada Oct 14, 2009 750mL bottle - pours a sharp golden into chalice. Very complex tripel, with malts, citrus, yeast, strong alcohol... One of my all-time favourites. Unibroue has brewed an amazing one here. probstk (1007), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Oct 13, 2009 750 ml bottle from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass. Often consumed before this rating.
App.: Cloudy deep golden with a good tight white foam.
Aroma: Earthy citrus, more fruity citrus, strong yeast and bread dough, lightly perfumed, sweet honey, some banana esters, some biscuit and toast, other, non-citrus fruitiness.
Palate: Medium+ body, fairly full, fine effervescence.
Flav.: Quite a bit like the nose, lots of citrus notes, some nice coriander, a bit more of the malts with more biscuit and toast, still some floral honey, yeast/dough are less present; fairly sweet with a touch of alcohol and light fruitiness to finish.
A very lovely Tripel. TizzleJizzle (46), Garland, Texas, USA Oct 12, 2009 Wow. Smells of orange peel and amazingness. This brew has a golden cloudy color. Tastes of clove, banana, citrus, and a taste of the heavens. Active carbonation and tantalizing on the palate. All in all this is a great abbey tripel that is easy to drink and available at many stores. gyllenbock (238), Stockholm, Sweden Oct 10, 2009 Bottle. Golden/orange color, white head that didn´t last for a long time.
A lot of warming alcohol on the fellow. Yeast, grape, perfume, malt, honey, a nice mild acidity. Well balanced. A very good beer! gorditoabd (162), San Diego, California, USA Oct 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours golden-orange with ample, fizzy, lasting champagne head. Aroma is sweet and tart at once, like oranges, grapefruits, and lemons all squeezed together. It almost reminded be of a sour ale when I first popped it open. Initial taste is sufficiently bitter, all malt and citrus notes. Good, but a little out of balance? I agree with the rater who posted about there being a somewhat medicinal quality. It’s definitely there, but I think it’s just the high ABV occasionally peeking through. Not a bad beer. Definitely nice for a cooler night here in San Diego.
