elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA May 20, 2008 3/15/08 notes: from bottle, I got to try this beer again thanks to my friend Pat. Pours a muddy peach color that is cloudy (I assume it is unfiltered?). Smell that hits you is a sweet, fruity one, which might be effectively reproduced by mixing lemon peel, coriander, orange, grass and cotton candy. This beer is strongly carbonated, has a fairly light body (for an Abbey Tripel), and contains minimal traces of 9% alcohol. Strong rum fruit-cake flavor, along with banana and clove. I found the flavor to build as this beer warmed, and that trademark unibroue fruitcakiness stayed in my mouth well after the gulp. Memorable beer, but still not quite my cup of tea; I prefer Ommegang’s Belgians. gam (1068), brisbane, Australia May 18, 2008 Thin headon good carbonation, misty orange pour.Aroma is mainly clove, coriander, banana, ginger notes.Flavour banana, clove, coriander, orange mild, cinnamon,is a sweet and tasty beer easy to enjoy.Finish is peppery or ginger like, sweet dry. Underhook (162), Lincoln Park, New Jersey, USA May 18, 2008 Updated: Jun 22, 2008High quality tripel. Very easy to drink, made a good summer beer. Cloudy golden hue. Fruity, lemony smell. Taste is well rounded, fruity and spicey. Alcohol not very detectable. EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA May 17, 2008 Golden Amber with a slight greenish hue and a nice cream head. Sweet baby fruit smell, and as others say, the enticing smell of raw dough. Complex flavor, with banana baby food, bright citrus, holiday spices, a hint of russian tea. Nice finish. I enjoy this very much. Makes me nostalgic for the holidays. I need to remember this next Thanksgiving or Christmas. VitaminR (422), Colorado, USA May 17, 2008 Aroma is fresh dough with flours and a touch of lemon spice. Bubbly head, nice lacing, pearl yellow gold color. intense clove candy sweetness, slight sourness, mild bitterness. Huge carbonation, smooth finish, alcohol barely makes itself noticeable. This is a fantastic beer, one of the best non-Belgian Tripels available. Awesome! gonzo46and2 (108), Tampa, Florida, USA May 17, 2008 750 ML corked bottle. Pours a dark hazy straw color. Sweet and sticky beer. Tastes like cake. Very bubbly. Light bitterness on the finish. Good but not great. flatmatt (221), Northville, Michigan, USA May 16, 2008 Updated: Jun 19, 200812 oz. bottle. Pours hazy pale yellow with a large head. Aromas of sweet apple and a bit of alcohol. Flavors are tart and sweet apple and citrus, spice, and a lingering touch of hops. A bit of alcohol in the finish. Carbonation is a bit too high, but it’s a decent beer. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA May 16, 2008 12 oz into pint glass. Hazy dirty brown pour with fizzy white head and lots of fine carbonation. Gentle aromas of orange, malts, some hops, and apricot. Strange citrus flavor, not too flavorful in my opinion; but it is a refreshing beer for spring/summer that is dangerously drinkable. Fizzy and soft on the palate; medium bodied, almost champagne-like.
