HUNTERNFLA (25), USA Mar 2, 2008 Updated: Mar 3, 2008Interesting aroma Tastes were bananna and cloves Light yellow in color. A very good beer, certainly worth having again amishcaravan (237), Winona, Minnesota, USA Mar 1, 2008 pours a light amber with a lasting head. Nice taste with tones of spice and yeast. alcohol is well hidden. carbonation is high, but feels right with this one. Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Mar 1, 2008 This is a beautiful pour with a big white soapy head and a golden body. Aroma is full of wheat and fruit. Smooth drinking wheat flavors with plenty of fruit and alcohol. What a delicious beer! Haslinger (640), Syracuse, New York, USA Mar 1, 2008 Pours a hazy orange. Good flavor, lots of spice, decently carbonated. Good beer would buy again porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Mar 1, 2008 (750 ml bottle (best before 12/21/09), cellared for 10 mos. after purchase) Pours cloudy apricot with a small white head that recedes to a thin lasting layer. Aroma of yeast, fruit, perhaps citrus. Mouthfeel is smooth and quite soft - quite nice, not sticky. Fine bottle-conditioned carbonation. Light sheets of lacing melt away quickly. Flavor is sweet and fruity with banana and a fair bit of yeast. Alcohol well-hidden. Not the most exciting tripel I’ve had but nice, esp. the palate. CapedBrewsader (259), Brasschaat, Belgium Feb 29, 2008 33cl. bottle, bottled Nov22, 2005: Slightly hazy (due to bad pouring on my part) amber with jut a slight tendency towards red. Nice thick dense (barely) off-white head. Cooked apple and raisin sauce aromas. Hops still kicking in after all that time in the bottle!... not strong but a good earthy, fruity hop note. Grilled banana with vanilla ice-cream in the background with just a slight drizzle of caramel and cardamom. There is a definite, strong, toasted grain component to the aroma that makes it feel almost gritty in the nose. A fruity yeast dusted over the top as a garnish with a light squeeze of lemon. Nice tight had lasts for a long time. Flavor... For some reason one thing comes to mind, hopped honey with a drinking problem. Ok, maybe thats not exactly right but that came to mind first. Start with a biscuit base, dip it in pear juice, drench it with honey, sprinkle some ground up earthy (almost cheesy) hops on top, roll it in some grain an serve it in bit sized chunks. I am sorry I waited so long to open this bottle, but at the same time I think the age helped develop some of these wonderful flavors. This is a style I have been somewhat bored with lately (there are a lot of uninspired tripels out there) but this is quite nice. Maybe I should get a fresh bottle to compare... but then again I may not like it. It seems to have aged really nicely. I guess the only real complaint I can give is that it could be a touch drier. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Feb 27, 2008 Part of the "I can’t believe I haven’t rated it yet" run. Hazy golden yellow, puffy white pillow of a head, nice lacing. Nose is lemon hay malt, unibroue yeasty fruity spice. Nothing particularly identifiable in terms of spices - a combo of cardamom, clove & coriander. The spice grows into vanilla & malt comes through again at the end. Flavor is lemon, hay malt, clove, cardamom, yeasty spice. More clove & lemon/fruit in the finish. Vaguely astringent as a result of the spice. Wonderful body - full yet spritzy. HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Feb 26, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep straw, nice white head. Residual bubbles. Nose is fruit, spicy body. Clean.
