LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Aug 28, 2009 Appearance: While I’m used to a large fluffy head, this one poured with no head at all. The body is a cloudy dark yellow gold.
Aroma: Funky spicy fruity yeast. It’s really pleasant, but I can’t attribute it to a fruit or a flower.
Taste: Fruity, spicy yeast and hops. Cloves, coriander and citrus rind are found as I further savor.
Mouthfeel: Thick and fizzy.
Overall: A one of a kind, flavorful Belgian-style beer. I’ve had this beer so many times, in different parts of the country, and it’s remained consistently good. MennoO (112), Haarlem, Netherlands Aug 27, 2009 bottle, hazy orange-golden liquid, smells sweet and fruity, taste is very sweet and fruity. nice brew, though a bit too sweet BeerChaser0078 (283), Melbourne, Australia Aug 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours golden yellow with a frothy white head and good carbonation. Nose has citrus, banana, wheat and clove. Flavour is fairly similar, not overly sweet, with maybe a little more fruit and a little less grain. Palate is fizzy and smooth at the same time with a fairly long finish and a little lasting bitterness at the end. Overall a very good beer from the excellent Unibroue. jesperhammer (260), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 24, 2009 22-AUG-2009, bottle @Henriks.
Beautifull high white head on orangy colour.
Yeasty nose with apricots and other fruits. Loads of fruits and spices, and then the wonderfull creaminess.
High, high carbonation, and yet very easy drinkability.
Best Tripel ever? Sonicdescent (374), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 23, 2009
Pours a murky yellow with a nice finger of white froth. I have to comment on the insane carbonation, it looks like a fountain coming off of the etching in my Sam Adams Sensory glass.
Smells of bread. Some citrus character but not hoppy citrus, more like orange peel? Very clovey.
Tastes very spicy, pretty dry on the finish. Orange ester is present again.
Mouth is extremely high carbonated, so much so that I had difficulty detecting the body, which is somewhere in the middle by the way.
Overall as far as tripels go I much prefer the St. Bernardus but even that is comparing apples to oranges, this is a very spicy example. PolishHammer (64), , Connecticut, USA Aug 21, 2009 A respectable tripel...but lacking that typical licroice and wheat flavor and aroma. Puours a golden color, with a touch of haze, but pretty clear. White head of average size. Flavor is on the sweet side, but is not cloying in any way. An approachable tripel for those who aren’t wrapped up in what the style is supposed to tast like. In other wrods, there were no strong wheat, alcohol or licorice flavors. As with all Unibroue beers, extremely affordable! vikingbeercbus (34), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 21, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a golden yellow-brown with a full 1.5 inch head that dissipates quickly to a thin sparkly head. Nose is faint, general citrus and acid. Taste is complex, moving to a mix of lemon, clove, that dances in the mouth. The triple fermentation is well worth it, as the taste lingers on my palate crisply. Beth101 (315), West Yorkshire, England Aug 21, 2009 This was a cloudy golden colour. It had an aroma of hops and wheat. It had a fruity taste with a hint of wheat.
