Jungle Jim’s Second Spring Beer Fest

5/12/2007: Unibroue La Fin Du Monde has a hazy yellow color with a large, fluffy white head. The aroma and flavor contain pale malts, fruit (apple, citrus), and some spicy notes. This beer also tastes stong, but the alcohol stays well-hidden. This beer is medium-light in body with a generous level of carbonation and thus a lively mouthfeel. Unibroue makes some fantastic beers and this is just one of them from their respectable repertoire!

Sampled from a 750 ml corked and caged bottle (9% ABV).

Bottle. Pale golden yellow appearance with a laced head. Much like a white beer with the belgian tripel punch. Spicy and flowerly flavor.

0.33 l bottle. Hazy golden color with thick creamy head, very fizzy. Tart, fruity, peppery and clovey aroma with notes of vanilla. Sweetish initially followed by tart and dry finish. Very tart, fruity and spicy flavor with orange, pineapple, clove, pepper and warming alcohol. Very high carbonation. The carbonation is too much for me but still this is an excellent tripel!

Huge, billowy, lace, white-as-driven snow head, atop a perfectly golden, clear body. Aroma is a sweet array of fruit and spice, standing far above any other particular aspect. Delightful and heavenly. Is it "the End of the World", because it enters us into the next? Citrusy flavor stands on top, with dazzling hops and a marvelous sparkling sensation on tastebuds. Body is light, and extraordinarily uplighting. This brew handily earns it’s rep as the Canadian stand-in for Duvel. A terrifically engaging, hoppy mouthfeel, and an exceptionally warming feeling make this ideal beer for any sort of celebration, such as Anniversarys, holidays, Wednesdays, midnights, 2:45 A.M.s, anytime you’re exultant that the world hasn’t ended, didn’t get fired, dog still loves you, etc., etc....

Hazy pale yellow straw coloured body with a large frothy white head. Soft clove and lemony aroma. Zesty spicey taste, lovely alcohol level, medium body makes it easy to quaff down, enjoyed this beer and it was gone before I knew it.

Surprised that I hadn’t rated this one yet. Lovely hazy light gold, big head that slowly fades. Aroma of orange, a hint of clove, and other spices, with the traditional Unibroue yeast. Flavor matches, complex yet approachable. This is a very well done example of the style.

A solid brew with a pretty noticeable alcohol taste. The rest of the beer, makes you not care about the alcohol. Not too bitter, with a yeast-like texture. Highly recommended------ 3/19/04. This was the beer that got me hooked on beer and Rate Beer. Now that I look back at my original rating, its pretty pitiful. 12 oz bottle this time. Nose is fruity, I smell pineapples, malts, yeasts, and spices. Don't remember the aroma being so pleasant. Pours hazy blonde with a HUGE white head. Very sweet and fruity start--really taste what appears to be pineapple. Sweet candies in the middle. Alcohol hidden well. Nice palate. I agree with my initial rating. This seems much better than the first time I had it.

Pours golden and glowing maze with a moderate fading head. Nice bits swimming about and a consistent thin stream of carbonation from the Duvel "D" in my glass. Aromas are of citrus and fresh cut veggies, yeast, yeast, and more yeast. The flavors are earthy. Sweet hay up front followed by sourdough bread and finishing with a Fresca-hop bite. Somewhat savory towards the end as it warms. Not my cup of tea, really, but it's growing on me as I pop the cork on my second 750 tonight.
