Ungstrup (11136), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 1, 2004 The aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate and plums combined with a slight sourness. The color is pitch black and it has a beutiful light brown head. The flavor is sweet with notes of yeast, citrus, plums, and wood. It turns somewhat bitter combined with the sourness - which is a really good balance to the sweet start. A little too sour for my liking. But the body is good. Thanks a lot to Alex (Fiulijn) for trading me this one. omhper (10456), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 4, 2003 Bottled. Very dark brown. Subtle berry aroma. Dryish and lightly yeasty, otherwise surprisingly clean. Notes of sugar and perhaps chocolate. Complex, but very, very subtle for a beer of this magnitude. Papsoe (9999), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 14, 2005 (Bottle 75 cl) Very dark and opaque, very small, lacing head. Pronounced alcohol in the nose. Very malty with notes of dried fruits - especially raisins. Odd underlying sourness. I’ve had this stored for six months - I think I should keep the remaining bottles for a couple of more years. 310505 Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 23, 2002 Black; aroma of black currants, black (but not roasty) malts - less fruit than the similar Trois Pistoles. Smooth body, complex malt notes, ever-present Unibroue yeast, plum, toffee, sweet finish. yespr (6391), Copenhagen O, Denmark Nov 11, 2007 75 cL bottle, thanks to Carsten for bringing me this from Boston. Pours deep brown with a huge light brown head, quickly diminishing. Aroma is malty, alcohol heavy wineous, notes of dried fruit and a slight yeasty spice note. Flavour is rather sweet caramel malty. Has notes of fruits and yeast in the flavour. The yeast holds some vague spices but no match to the Belgian rolemodels. Has a light acidity lingering. Ends slight herbal/spiced with a mild bitterness and medium dry.
