Commercial Description:
La Terrible is a dark brown beer on lees and is part of a collection of exotic and refined Unibroue beers brewed using 100% natural raw materials. It may be drunk as an aperitif or as an after dinner digestive. It is equally a perfect accompaniment to the above-mentioned dishes or a pleasant alternative to coffee.

This was hard to place, for me, stylistically. It certainly had belgian notes to it, a dark fruityness, a candy sweetness, carbonated mouthfeel. But it was also dark and malty. 10.5 is miles away. I thought this was quite good and special.

Poured dark brown and slightly cloudy. An almost creamy, light tan head formed. The aroma was a hint of cherry and then raisin, malts and a touch of yeast. The flavor too had a bit of cherry with dark malts and raisin becoming more prevalent as it warmed. A touch of alcohol towards the finish. Medium bodied with tight carbonation. Not bad.

Pours a very dark brownish black color with a nice big head and plenty of lace. The aroma is plum cherry and alcohol with plenty of floral and estery aromas. The flavor is fruity and lightly roasty with some apple and cherry and plenty of spice. The flavor displays just a slight hint of warming alcohol note and just a faint tartness. The palate is creamy and full. I could easily believe that this beer is half it’s strength. Smooth and drinkable without negating flavor or texture.

Dark reddish brown, big chunky tan head. Aroma was very fruity. Closely resembles Juicy Juice. Lots of cherry aroma and flavor. Little bit of sourness. 10.5% alcohol was totally hidden. I’m not sure if that’s really a good or a bad thing.

750 ml bottle at C’est What? in Toronto. Opaque black with a large tan head. Hints of pine and licorice. Creamy chocolate mousse flavor with an edge of slight smoke. Finish of cocoa and milk chocolate. Alcohol shows through, otherwise I’d give it a 4.5 for taste. Great body. Definitely to be sought out.

750-ml bottle Marcello’s Lafayette, LA - Aroma: chocolate, raisin-, plum-like dried fruit, vanilla (malt); Appearance: dark-brown to black color, tan head (fades quickly), some laces; Flavor: sweet, salty, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, raisin-, plum-like dried fruit (malt), bitter (malt/hop), sourness (yeast); Mouthfeel: medium to heavy bodied, high carbonation, creamy texture, dry finish; Overall: a gorgeous black colored Belgian style beer with restrained bitterness, and amazing aroma and flavor of chocolate and dried fruit which finishes a little sour or tart and hidden alcohol content.

I’ve sampled Unibroue beers in the past, but this is my favorite from the Unibroue family. Fairly strong alcohol content of 10.5 %. Nice taste. Very rich and complex. I will be purchasing more of this brew in the future. A must try!

On tap at local pub. Dark with creamy head. Raisin and plum aroma. Sweet and smooth. Medium body. Little carbonation. Truly a unique beer. Had I drank it blindfolded, I could have been convinced that this was wine. Very pleasant.
