Jun 1, 2009 Spice and some sweetness on the nose. Some Apples and Honey there as well. Dark reddish opaque see thru with some off white head. Like all Unibroue beers the carbonation and medium body mouthfeel are amazing and pure joy. Solid crisp finish! Flavor was solid but not mind blowing. Unibroue makes good beers and great beers... This is a good beer. Some spice up front with a apple fade at the end. The Unibroue yeast has a strong impact. Strong tartness upfront with a a surprising dry backbone that could be a bit more spicier

May 27, 2009 Bomber. Pours a dark amber. I had quite a lot of head on my first pour, but that might have been my fault. Aroma is sweet and spicy, perhaps a hint of hops. Taste is smooth, slightly bitter at first, but not much of an aftertaste. I would say fruity with spices, some alcohol can be detected, but it actually goes quite nice with the spice flavor. I paid $7.99 for a bomber.

May 26, 2009 Pours a cloudy dark amber with lots of solids suspended and floating around. Tan head with good retention. Nose of herbs, spices, and floral. Taste is very complex, consisting of notes of red grapes, raisins, citrus, caramel, wood, herbs and pepper. Spicy and sweet finish.

May 23, 2009 dark amber with medium light-tan head. Aroma is of ripe fruit. taste is fruity with spices and some alcohol. dry finish. Very nice.

May 22, 2009 Updated: Aug 26, 2009Dark pour. Belgian aroma with a weightier feel. Dry mouthfeel, little aftertaste. Flavor up front is bitter. No sweetness which I expected.
Re-rate 8/26/09. Pours heavy red with a murky appearance. Smell has a nice round of spice with a quick punch of heavy flavors. Mouthfeel boasts an immediate tingle which is cheerfully provided by the ABV. Taste is better than I remembered however I was but a tot when I tried it the first time. Slight improvement.

May 19, 2009 Brown pour with a tan head. Malty caramel aroma. Flavor of dark fruits, spice and malts. Potent caramel and alcohol finish.

May 19, 2009 Bomber. Light tan head over a maroon base. Very yeasty, malty and fruit in aroma and flavor. Some bitterness in the end. Nice almost refreshing Belgian strong.

May 18, 2009 A classic, indeed. I remember that I didn’t like this beer in the early 90’s; it was too strong, spicy and strange for my commercial beer tastebuds. It’s been now maybe two years that I really appreciate strong beers but I never re-tasted the Maudite until recently. And God was I surprised!. I think my uncle had kept it for several months in its refrigerator; I know it’s not the beer way of cellaring but it was deliciously thick and caramel sweet, with layers of complexity, with spices, fruits and moderate bitterness. I read it has a five years aging potential. Great, but the important think not to forget to enjoy those strong Unibroue beers: LET IT WARM!
