nickd717 (1273), Palo Alto, California, USA Feb 10, 2009 Bottle from BevMo. Nice Belgian strong ale. Deep reddish-brown appearance with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is yeasty with candi sugar, sweet malt, and dark fruits. Flavor is more of the same, very intense and complex. Well-spiced. Smooth, full mouthfeel and a long finish. shackinetics (132), Florida, USA Feb 9, 2009 Brown/red pour with excessive foamy head. Yeasty nose with flavors of grape, citrus, spices. Sudsy, extremely warming ABV. I have no doubt this is a really good beer - yeasty/wheaty Belgian style is just not my thing. BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 9, 2009 A- Pours a clear dark red with brown tints, off-white medium-sized head with fairly watery lacing that doesn’t stick very much
S- Sweet belgian candy dominates, dark fruits and some yeasty/bread malts on board, subtle hints of cinnamon, pepper, and banana on board as well
T- Initial taste is of malted candy and dark fruits which quickly transitions to a complex spice profile that sticks around in the prolonged finish
M- Medium-bodied ale with a slightly over-carboned feel, watery texture for a strong ale
D- Edgy carbonation and 8%abv make puts this in the ’moderately’ drinkable range, but the watery texture really kills this beer for me webbcreative (111), , Oklahoma, USA Feb 9, 2009 Mahogany pour no head, but his is on tap. Can’t get much aroma in here. Tate is more pike the Belgian golden ales I have had, such as pranqster. Good brew l, I just expected more body from a Belgium dark.
WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Feb 8, 2009 Tap at Stone. Pours reddish amber with a tan ring. Nose is sweet and malty. Taste is sweet and viscous and overall quite good. 7.4.7.4.14 ljstephenson (111), Lawton, Oklahoma, USA Feb 8, 2009 Dark amber pour, dirty brown head, strong notes of fruit and cinnamon, dry finish, good strong alcohol presence. puboflyons (589), New Hampshire, USA Feb 7, 2009 From a 12 fl. oz. bottle with an expiration date of 03-20-11. It pours a cloudy, mahogany brown with a lng lasting tan head. Fermented in the bottle so the yeast aromas are strong upon opening, along with hops and maybe clove. Solid mouthfeel. Hops in the flavor tone down the strong alcohol flavor to balance it off in good fashion. Finishes mildly dry. I do not normally like Belgian Strong Ales but I make an exception with this one. Dervock (178), Emu plains, Australia Feb 4, 2009 Pours a dark orange with a clean white head with small bubbles tracking the side of the glass
Fresh fruity, citrus aroma. Rich fruity flavour, not much of the malt comes through, but predominant yeast flavour. Very drinkable.
