Poured into a Unibroue Chalice a nice semi-cloudy reddish brown color, nice carbonation, nice little creamy off-white head, which leaves some nice small islands and sticky lacing. The nose is malty, slight yeast, slight spices, and caramel. The taste is slightly sweet, malty/yeasty, nice tones of spice, and caramel. Medium body, slight over carbonation. Alcohol hidden very well. A nice complex brew. Very drinkable. This is my second go round with this brew, still a joy to drink, highly recommended. bw1982 (70), , Florida, USA Jan 5, 2009 12 ounce bottle. Pours a very dark amber color, almost a brown with a slightly off white head. The aroma is primarily a nice sweet malt. The palate is nice, slightly dry but it feels like it fills the mouth. The flavors are strong, there are some hints of molasses and fruit but with a strong malty background. The alcohol is not overly strong, but it does provide some warmth. All in all, this was a very excellent beer. pjweaver (133), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2009 Trappist glass. Sweet yeasty aroma, strong malt character. Pours a red mahogany, some fluffy white head. Malty flavor, toasty with lots of red fruit sweetness. Dry on the tongue, with a foamy mouth feel. Nice strong ale. pojo41 (315), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Jan 3, 2009 Hazy copper color with a fluffy off-white head. Dark, sweet malty aroma with hints of fruit. Flavor is rich and malty, slightly sweet with hints of fruit and spice. Easy to drink. Another outstanding offering from Unibroue. thooper41 (384), Oregon, USA Jan 3, 2009 12oz bottle: Appearance is a slightly hazy dark brown with slow fading off white head, aroma of spices and a bit of yeast, flavor of spices slight woody flavor and bit of yeast. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Jan 2, 2009 Pours a murky copper with a tan head. Very heavy carbonation. Aroma is of malt, yeast, alcohol, dark fruit, and sugars. Taste is of malt, dark fruit, sugars, and caramel. The fruit is the most evident flavor. Nice alcohol warming feel. Mouthfeel is very creamy and malty. Not a bad beer by any means. KYackley (33), , Minnesota, USA Dec 31, 2008 Pours a clear brown body with a minimal head. Scents of yeast and strong alcohol are immediately released. The taste grows more complex as it warms. Molasses and cloves dominate the palate. A good price for such a brew. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 31, 2008 Clear copper color with a white ring of a head. Aroma of molasses, malts and root beer. Complex flavor dominated by molasses with hints of fruits, spices, and malts. Another beer that warms the insides on a cold night.
