jgentgesdo (564), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Jun 5, 2008 Pours cloudy magnificent orange with a mediujm tan head that shows beautiful lacing on the glass. Nose is orange, apricot, honey. Flavor of honey, peppery yeast, apricot, orange peel. Fairly sweet and malty. Finishes crisp, flowery, and light. Alcohol is mildly and pleasantly present. As it warms a funky, musty cheese flavor comes towards the end of the swallow. I love it love it love it. Perm (151), Tryon, North Carolina, USA Jun 2, 2008 Unibroue consistently brews a high-quality product. And by high, I mean Himalayan. Maudite for me is no exception, possibly even my current favourite of their year-round offerings.
Appearance: A cloudy copper-red.
Aroma: A bouquet of sugar, cloves, and dark cherries.
Taste: Wheat, perhaps something akin to a faint peanut brittle...I can’t resist simply calling it, "ambrosia."
Palate: spritzy and quenching. As the Unibroue people describe it themselves, a cognac-like finish.
Overall: What a brew! This one is great all by itself. Also try it with hearty foods that otherwise might get the chianti or merlot treatments: pasta, tomato-based dishes, red meat (beef stew!), or artisanal pizza. A clear winner all-around.
Serving type: bottle BiddleBrau (303), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Jun 1, 2008 Poured a cloudy amber with minimal head although visibly effervescent. Mildly malty/fruity aroma. Palate was medium body with carbonation most prominent regarding mouth feel. Strikes me as a combination of a dubbel and strong ale with it’s fruity flavors and aroma. This was Unibroue was alright but not something I’d pick up again. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 30, 2008 Another nice beer from Unibroue. very wheat flavored and creamy texture. it starts sweet and finishes sweet. the colour of the body is also a hazy golden. KnutAlbert (3108), Oslo, Norway May 29, 2008 Bottle from Dublin.
Murky red, beige head, lively carbonation.
Very Belgian yeast character. Sweet fruit - peaches and sour cherries. Nuts, flowers.
Crisp hoppy finish.
An excellent beer that would be perfect with some ripe cheese. TheElder (49), DeSoto, Wisconsin, USA May 28, 2008 Found this one a thick amber/ orange color, with a beige tinted head. It smells sweet with a hint of tartness. The taste is deep and darts all over. Fruitier than I expected with sugar highlights and it saves the alcohol burn for the end. IPAaLLtHEwAY (136), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA May 27, 2008 Pours a dark amber color. The smell is somewhat tart, Not bad just different. The taste however is really good, like an explosion of fruit tittilating the palate, bearing a slightly metallic flavor and just a hint of alcohol late in the tasting expierience. All in all it has been a good expierience and is well worth the money. patricks110 (276), Alberta, Canada May 26, 2008 Dark abmer with medium thick head. Smells of fruity metallic notes.m First taste is sweet. There is a slight bitter aftertaste which is most likely caused by the 8% Alc.. Sweet devil on bottle. Bottle at Bottlescrew Bill’s Calgary, AB.
