Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Interesting green tinged carmel color. Light baby food banana and some other fruit aroma. Fairly tense flavor, sharp, of allspice like the spice in pumpkin pie, even a little sweet. A bit of bite in the back of the throat. Quite a bit of fiz as well. Nice to have tried, but don’t need another.

Bottle: Glowing amber with a thick off-white head atop. Some interesting citrussy apricot aromas are pushed along by spicy clove and mace notes. Thick and caramelly at first but turning to a mild plastic and metalic melange of flavours that aren’t necessarily bad and that give way to a spicy aftertaste.

Poured from a regular sized bottle into a pint glass. The beer was a very thick and cloudy, dark amber color, with a brown tint, and a sizeable, foamy, off-white head with long retention. A nice sweet fruity aroma, with some raisin, banana, and yeast notes, and an earthy hops touch too for balance. It has a mostly sweet, dense fruit taste, but also a mix of sourness. The palate was wet and full, with some interesting fizz. Overall it’s a very good beer, but not one that really wowed me.

Aroma: lots of banana, sweet, spicy. Flavor is more yeasty biznus, but less banana, some alcohol, some clove. Finishes dry with a nice bittersweet buzz. Palate is slightly thin, but it works.

Spicy aroma. Flavor is grapefruit, spicy character. Finishes dry and slightly bitter. Had a small sample though. Probably will re-rate in the future.

Pours a nice golden amber with a soild, lingering white head. The aroma is sweet and pungent - grapes, roast. The flavor is somewhat similar, tart, sweet, spicy, dry and quite smooth. Grape, grapefruit, raisin. Mouthfeel is dry, full and clean, very nice. Excellent beer.

Orange with huge, long lasting, foamy white head. Scents of roast, smoke, raisin,... quite complex. Taste is similar though more sweet and alcoholic than the nose. Sweet finish. Nice beer.
