Pours a nice hazy amber with very nice off-white head with excellent retention. Aroma was obvious before my nose hit the glass, aroma of nice fruity citris with notes of bannana and clove. Flavor was nice with strong caramel malt and nice yeasty bannana and clove flavor, with nice alcohole spice to complement. Palate was full with medium carbonation....GREAT beer!. texasbartender (160), Sugarland, Texas, USA May 8, 2008 The beer pours a lively amber with a thin off white head. The nose is a mix of sweet fruit and light yeast. The taste is great mixing sweet fruits with a good balance of spices and yeast. The mouth feel is very carbonated. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA May 7, 2008 Unibroue Maudite is a hazy brown/amber ale with yeast resting in the bottom. The aroma is full of bananna, apples, cloves and other fruits with a nice undertone of alcohol. The flavor is also very sweet with a dry end leaving the taste of alcohol in the throat. tytoanderso (1381), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA May 6, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of yeasty esters that present themselves in an odd Fruity Pebbles way. Caramel and toffee behind, but the yeast component dominates. Pours a dark ruby/copper with a thin skin of an off white head. Plenty of yeast on the palate with green pepper, dry crass and slightly soured citrus fruit. Medium bodied with a ton of carbonation leading to a slightly vinous finish. Thanks Matt! smith4498 (816), Miami, Florida, USA May 5, 2008 Pours reddish brown with off white head. Bready aroma with typical Unibroue yeast smell. Slightly sweet flavor with some yeast and spices. Meduim body with prickly carbonation. A good Belgian strong ale. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark May 4, 2008 33 cL bottle. Pours hazy hazzlenut brown with a dense off-white head. Yeasty aroma with a notes of caramel malt. Flavour is mild fruity, yeasty, and with a mild and somewhat dry caramel malt. Light yeast fruity finish. Bananamaniac (35), Kristinehamn, Sweden May 2, 2008 Bottle 33 cl. This is definitively not as good as I first thought. Looks beatiful but tastes like... Hmm.. Nothing actually, a bit vinous and som red berries, but not much more. shalloWMeans (160), Independence, Kentucky, USA Apr 30, 2008 Knowing the legends and stories behind a beer before you drink it really makes a huge difference on your enjoyment of the brew. In this instance, the story was told by Rick Swarez, from Unibroue, at an excellent beer tasting I attended. As for the beer itself: I was first greeted by a devilish looking ale, crimson/caramel brown to an amberish, red hue and topped with a sinister white head. My nostrils were infiltrated with caramel maltiness (perfectly balanced) toffee, cinammon, cloves and brown sugar, which all mingled on the tongue. The beer is excellently crafted, remniscent of a lighter style abbey dubbel with smooth, velvety, well-rounded maltiness and an ever-so haunting alcohol presence, ending with a bittersweet cocoa finish. Terrifyingly good.
