jonbarrick (5), Denver, Colorado, USA does not count Mar 26, 2008 dry and slightly sweet. Great aroma. Something about the %60 palate could be better, but the finish is far better than average. Poured correctly, not too heady. kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Mar 26, 2008 Smells like apple juice at first. Pours with a ton of foam, what belgian that’s bottle conditioned doesn’t? Color is dirty water cloudy copper. Aroma is mild/strong malty, and it seems a good hop balance as well with a tinge of sweetness and alcohol. The beer bubbles well. The head is dense, small-bubble foam, and fizzy. The flavor is of sweet, dark fruit, wild yeast, citrus and malt. The finish is a bit rough. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Mar 26, 2008 brown hazy amber color head is slightly beige smells spicy (clove or even a bit corriander-like) and fruity(a bit like dried pears and some hidden orange-peel-like smell) carbonation fits well with the tasts tasts fruity (some citrus, even a bit orange-peel-like and dried dates) and spicy with some nice warm alcohol aftertaste spicy, fruity, has some nice bitterness and some warm alcohol a rather good beer Illuminatus (87), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Mar 25, 2008 750mL bottle from the LCBO. Pours dark red with a good-sized head. Quite smooth and rich. A good example of how to brew a good Belgian ale. Doesn’t require six months of cellaring in the way that Chimay Red does. Very nice. larsga (2937), Oslo, Norway Mar 25, 2008 Big yellowish beige lasting head. Brown hazy body with suspended yeast. Peppery yeasty spicy aroma with fruity notes. Sweetish spicy chalky fruity taste with peppery banana notes. Sharpish mouthfeel. Apple and licorice notes, as well as grains of paradise. Very good! (0.33l bottle, SuperValu, Dublin.) milljam (562), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Mar 22, 2008 Deep aroma of dark fruit (figs, plums) and sweet malt. Flavor is very much like a trippel or a quad.....sweet candy sugar and dark sugary fruits. Very carbonated in the mouth...great alcohol warming, especially at warmer temperatures. Overall a very delicious beer, particularlly during winter. MrBunn (1520), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 21, 2008 Bottle. Rating #666. Body is hazy and about the color brown of a hazelnut. Obnoxiously large Unibroue head that means you have to wait forever to get more than three sips in your glass. (I hate that and always take off one appearance point for it.) Aromas are earthy/nutty with some yeast, citrus and alcohol peeking through the cracks. Flavor is interesting. Classic Unibroue thin mouthfeel, but flavor goes beyond the thin alcohol burn that I have found in several of their offerings. I like the candi sugar/fig dark malt presence and how it balances out the earthy/yeasty flavors. A little bit of an alcoholic warmth, but nothing severe. Brewer101 (162), New Jersey, USA Mar 20, 2008 nice belgian strong ale with dark pour and little head. it has a nice look. the aroma isnt anything to write home about but a good one none the less to drink.
