Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

A really nice trappist strong ale, and a fantastic value! Dark red and amber colored beer with a beige head. Aroma and flavor match what a strong ale should...dark ripe stone fruits and burnt sugar. Perfect amount of alcohol warmth.

750ml bottle poured in a pint glass.Poured a cloudy golden brown color with a big bubbly off-white head. Aroma of sweet malts, toasts, fruits and some herbs & spices. Complex flavor yet not overpowering. Toasted malts up front with a bitter hop & alcohol finish. There’s also notes of fruits, herbs, spices and a faint hint of dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is rustic but pleasant. Tangy carbonation and creamy. It’s flavor makes this one more of a slow sipping experience. It’s more abrasive and less polished then "La fin du monde" or "Trois pistole" but still a really good beer.

In a tulip glass... Sugary plum aroma, with red wine grapes. A mild spicy Belgian funk. Fruity and dark. The appearance is dark, reddish and mahogany. Head disappears quickly. Cloudy and rich color. The flavor is a combination of dark, sweet grapes and stone fruits. The Dubbel-ish Belgian funk comes in later. Really funky on the back of the tongue. A severe champagne finish. Feels dry like red wine at first, then a little champagne fizz. Flavors are a bit dark. A good, solid beer, not amazing.

Same bad aftertaste as other Unibroue beers I’ve had, but on a slightly better beer.

12oz bottle. Aged 9 months. Pours a murky brownish-red color with a nice off-white head that lingers. Aroma is fruity, sweet and malty. Tastes sweet like a banana and some subtle spice notes. Medium body, very smooth. Aftertaste is unique. Lots of complexities with this beer.

Delicious mild slightly alcoholy belgian flavor with nice fizziness - tastes like a toasty bonde with a bit of hoppiness

Very very smooth, the alcohol isn’t as prominent as some of the other Unibroues. A little sweet and a little spicy with lots of malt and some dark fruit.

Pours well, long lasting big head. Crisp taste, strange after-taste. This is a strong beer Ƙ% ABV) and the alcohol definitely comes through and somewhat ruins the taste. All in all, a good beer.
