kevd193213 (477), Hope Valley, Rhode Island, USA Dec 26, 2007 Dark amber pour with spicy aroma. Thin white fizzy head. Taste of malt and yeast. Nice finish with some alcohol present. cerberus9 (9), Canada does not count Dec 24, 2007 Subtle, fruity aroma. Deep copper coloured with a thick white head that diminishes fairly quickly. Pleasant, fruity taste with a slight alcoholic bite. Not as strong tasting as I was expecting. gabbama (115), Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, USA Dec 24, 2007 Mild aroma of spiced fruits. Similar flavor. It’s a good beer, but not as good as some of unibroue’s others. a10555 (123), West Chester, Ohio, USA Dec 23, 2007 Poured a darker color than the other ones that I got out of this sampler. Nice thick head. As for being a strong Ale, it was still a little too light and fruity for what I’ve been accustomed to with American Strong Ales. Overall pretty good, but not great. sinkr (212), Lusby, Maryland, USA Dec 23, 2007 12 oz-ish bottle->tulip glass: Pours a decent head that is rocky, white, and diminishes quickly. Lacing is spare, the body is hazy, and the particles make the beer somewhat cloudy, which adds to its reddish darkness. The malt is heavy, as are the hops, with some herbs (or as some may consider spices) intertwined in with a dry fruityness. There is a considerable smell of alcohol to this brew and perhaps raisin, licorice, and some cinnamon in very small amounts. The body is full, the texture is thick and there is soft carbonation, though I feel like the beer finishes with a metallic taste, though the duration of the flavor post sip, does last a tad longer than the average, which I almost always feel is a good thing. Not a favorite Unibroue, for me, but I wouldn’t pass it up in the colder months, though I think this beer’d be a little out of place in the summer. HighlanderOne (538), Somewherein, New Jersey, USA Dec 21, 2007 Poured from bottle. Odd looking - color of pond water, tannish head persists. I smell malt, apple, spice, hint of alcohol. The flavor is, ahhhh, definitely Belgian. Cake, grapes, nut, oak, apple, banana, alcohol. Warm feel and smooth palate - I’m savoring each sip. Alcohol more present as it warms. Needless to say, it finished wonderfully. A fine beer. Russo (595), Campinas, Brazil Dec 19, 2007 bottled. Orange to Amber color, nice beige foamy. Aroma is fruity and sweet, note of malt. Flavor is balanced sweet, fruity and bitter, note of alcohol and malt. Mouthfeel is sweet with a smooth bitterness.
Pours a beautiful clouded dark amber. smells of yeasty goodness and dark fruits. Taste starts with malts and yeast and a little more alcohol than I expected but it seems like there is a bit of a void. A little watery in the middle. The mouthfeel is also a bit lighter than I expected. Very good brew, but not as good as some other Unibroue brews in my opinion.
