Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

12 oz. bottle. pours a deep red / light brown with a 1 cm white head which quickly disappears. has all the qualities of an excellent belgian strong ale. nice fruity aromas, mainly raisins. carbonated and spicy on the palate with a wonderful finish. does not differentiate itself that much from other quality belgian strong ales.... although it is highly recommended.

Has the aroma of plums and raisins and maybe a little bit of leather. The appearance is a dark cloudy brown, looks like liquified raisins. Has the flavor of raisins and deep malt. Not a bad beer.

Pours like a quadruple. Deep mahogony brown, huge fluffy off white head. Nice aroma of molasses, brown sugar and dried fruit. Flavor is subtle plum and candy like sugar. Not a lot of complexity though. I was hoping for more. Not a hint of alcohol. Utterly no bite or bitterness. Kind of boring compared to other strongs.
