Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Draft at Croxley’s Ale House. Aroma of dark fruit, sugar, roasted malt, and some yeast. The flavor is quite similar with the dark fruit dominating. Sweet overall and good tasting.

Heavily spiced, even peppery. Extremely carbonated mouthfeel. Could not really enjoy it. Very bitey.

Fantastic beer on all accounts: l discover new flavors and smells each time I open a bottle. Other raters have flushed out all the necessary details about the beer’s yeasty, slightly sweet, yet complex character. Delightful appearance too.

Cloudy brown with a decent head. Taste of rich Christmas fruit cake. Definelty has some strong falvors and aroams of spices and licorice. Complex taste with nice alcohlic bite and rich taste.

75 cl.bottle with a 03-05-2005 drink by date. Has a hazy amber-orange color with a decent head. A peppery, spicey smell, medium bodied with a nice creamy mouthfeel. Taste is complex with sweets and spices; caramel, vanilla, cloves, black pepper, etc. A slight alcohol bitterness to finish reminds me of the brews potency. A nicely crafted brew that has aged well. (Sept 2004).

Nice looking head, lots of citrus in the aroma with a bit of malt. Medium brown color. Kinda light on the taste (which is exactly like the aroma) and I could barely tell I had beer on my tongue because it was so light. Probably wouldn’t buy again. Try the Le Fin du Monde instead.

12 oz bottle into trappist glass. Pours a ruby brown with a finger of clean white head. Citrus and malt odor. The taste is very complex, yet surprisingly soft- not much hop bitterness at all, and not as malty as I would have expected. There is a hint of bananas in the taste, and the alcohol doesn’t really appear until the aftertaste. It’s different then I expected, but still really great!

Pours a dark brown color with an off-white head. Aroma is of citrus, lemon, banana, dark fruits, spices, and a little alcohol. Flavor is of caramel and toffee malts, dark fruits, lemon, banana, and a dry finish with some alcohol warming. Overall it’s pretty good.
