Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

75 cl bottle. Unclear amber/orange with a sprinkly & fluffy white head. Wheat, yeast & fruits in the aroma. Light pleasant spiced. A touch of alcohol - very well balanced overall. Creamy lacings. Well made foreign Belgium!

(Bottled) Murky medium-brown color with a smallish head. Interesting aroma with burned sugar, roasty (slightly unfermented) malt, some port. Sweetish with some scotch ale character, but not toffeeish. Initially sweet, raw-malty, oaky flavor with a long, smooth, wineous and mildly bitter finish. Medium to full-bodied, thick palate with quite flat carbonation. Slightly raw, but quite pleasant and smooth brew. Probably gets better with aging.

Phenolic banana nose. Cloudy amber, not much head. Tastenotes include peaches and bubblegum. Quite different from other Belgian strong ales, you could almost think it is a weizenbock.

Poured a dark golden color, some dark sediment in the glass, with a large off white head that quickly diminished and left slight lacing. Fruit and yeast mixes with a sweet aroma. The taste was sweet and citrusy, but not as in a citrus hop taste. Goes down very smooth, you can’t tell this is 8%.

Pours a cloudy orange color with small head. Aroma has a little spice and alcohol to it. More of the same with the taste, with some additional citrus blended in. Not too shabby!
