Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Bottled. Hazy grey/orange appearance. Big tidbitty aroma with citrusy notes along with dried fruits and dough. Smooth malty with tidbits, dried fruits, prune, banana and apricot to name a few.

bottle, Auchan Illkirch-Graffenstaden, 2007. Hazy amber colour, large white head. Malty nose. Full-bodied, malty and very fruity with a touch of caramel. Pleasantly hoppy in the lingering finish. Delicious.

Bottle poured a cloudy dark amber with a large, lasting amber head. Aromas of brown sugar, spices, yeast and some vegtal notes. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of spices, brown sugar, yeast, honey and pepper with a crisp, lingering sweet finish.

Bottle. Pours copper with a huge, inviting off-white head that just begs to be eaten with a spoon. Excellent creamy, rocky lacing on a head that refuses to diminish. Earthy yeast (dough) cellared oak and malt (grain) aroma, slightly fruity nose. Moderately acidic caramel malt with sweet yeast flavor, some sour hoppiness and oak notes. Warm medium to full body with a fizzy and lively carbonated palate.

Draught at Bar Volo. Pours a clear bubbly dark orange with a small off-white head. The aroma is the standard Unibroue smell: malt, spices, yeast, alcohol and fruit -- you either like it or you don’t and I do. Flavour follows the aroma and is sweet, complex and goes down easy. One of Unibroue’s more pleasurable beers that is easy to drink and never dissapoints.

Sweet, yeasty aroma with a mild sourness of bread dough. Cloudy amber color with a thick ivory head. First taste is big and yeasty with a dank sourness, Then the sharp tartness kicks in, followed with an alcohol kick. Mildy effervescent mouthfeel but no doubt this is strong. Well balanced that’s just a tad sour.

Had as part of a flight at the Washington House Unibroue beer tasting. This was the second I had in the flight. Poured a cloudy amber color. Sweet candied sugars in the aroma. Slightly tart but not as much of a bite as the La Fin. Nicely blended and smooth. Taste of raisins, hops and malts. A very solid strong ale. I liked this the best of the flight I had.

Bottle from Dublin. Murky red, beige head, lively carbonation. Very Belgian yeast character. Sweet fruit - peaches and sour cherries. Nuts, flowers. Crisp hoppy finish. An excellent beer that would be perfect with some ripe cheese.
