Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

(bottle, sampled at Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden)Amber colour, slighly hazy with a small dissapearing white head. Malty dry flavour with some yeasty notes.. Well-balanced. Soft malty finish with a nice discrete hoppy note.

Bottle. Peach, yeast and malt aroma. Dark amber color with small head. Sweet peach malt flavor with moderate hops and alcohol in the finish. A great, easy drinking beer.

Bottle. A light brown beer with a big white head. Wonderful aroma of apples, raisins, yeast... quite fruity. A little too carbonated and a little light in body. There's a fruity taste (apples) and a little sweetness mixed with a hint of spice before you get the alcohol presence. Finishes dry. A very good beer, but I wish it has a little more body to it.

I love the appearance of this beer, a nice, appealing orange-red color with an abundant head. Inviting aroma of spices (pepper I guess) and orange. Peppery and fruity (orange) flavor. Smooth mouthfeel.

Pours with a large, off-white, quickly diminishing, head that still has good retention. Hazy brown-gold body. Aroma is candi sugar, cardoman, clove, apples and pepper. Taste is yeast, spicey, and sweet. Dry mouthfeel with very lively carbonation.

Yeasty, malty and fruity aroma. Cloudy, orange/brown coloured with a thin head. Spicy and a malty, sweet taste. Very smooth palate. Nice!

900 beers and no end in sight. This beer is a clear dark orange color with mild effervescence and a very thick bone white head. Quick lacing. The aroma is fruit (banana mostly), spice, yeast and some hops. Medium-bodied and somewhat complex with a satisfying array of flavors like clove and other spices, fruit, malt and a touch of alcohol. The finish is rather dry and zesty. The alcohol definitely sneaks up on you by the end of the bottle too. Very enjoyable.

Sweet yeast smell. Cloudy apricot colour, small head. Bready, spicey (orange zest.) Chewy, tingly, complex. ’The Damned One’ would be proud.
