Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Cloudy orange-brown with a light tan head. Yeasty nose with figs, nutmeg, dust, caramel, toffeeish malt, rye bread, pear, raisin. Full body, rich & spicy. Lots of warming alcohol, dark fruits and malt. The yeastines obscures the flavours much more than the aroma to the point where the finish is almost simple alcoohol and sweet fruits.

Amber-brownish colour, misty; frothy head, that reduces quickly. Warm aroma, malty, cookies, alcohol. Good body, powerful, a lot malty, alcoholic, sweet in the front, more balanced then; nuts. Ordinary palate, with sweet notes, lacking some hop character and bitterness.

Clear amber with tiny head. Overripe fruits, sweet malt and yeast in the aroma, Flavor is sweet with roasted malt, yeast, fruits and liquerice. Thin bodied but good balance.

On pour, there was a nice head that quickly dissolved, leaving a relatively clear orange-brown body. The aroma and flavor are both sweet and spicy. While that can be a good thing, I find that I don’t much care for this particular spiciness. Champagne mouthfeel contrasts unusually with the alcohol undertones. Surprisingly mild aftertaste.

33cl bottle from Auchan. Deep copper/red colour with thin white head. Slightly sour yeast hop aroma, some toffee, bit of aniseed spice too. Bit too carbonated in mouth before spice/hop/yeast finish. Spoilt for me by the over carbonation. There is also some faint red berry fruit throughout

Hazy nut brown color, firm small beige head. Aroma of yeast, nuts, oak and chocolate. Carbonated, hides ABV extremeley well. Sweet raisins flavor, fruity, slightly crisp and roasted. Reminds me about Westvleteren Red Cap.

Brown with a red hue and a nice head and a good lace. The aroma has notes of fruit and spice. The mouthfeel is full and round. The flavour has sweetness and notes of ripe frit (plum), spice like coriander. The finish is a nice and long, and the bitterness doesn’t turn up until rather late.
