Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Enjoyed 5/21/07 with a ribeye steak and veggies. Poured translucent orange-amber with a 1" white head that dissipated to 1/2" and did not last for the entire glass. Aroma is malty with some spice. Flavors include malt, fig, spice, a bit of raison, and a bit of flower. Fairly sweet.....but not too sweet. Flavors intensified as it warmed during the coarse of my meal. Accompanied the steak well. Very good Belgian. Strong recommendation.

Bottled. Foggy amber body with a dirty brown head. Slight sweet aroma, hazel nut and a little bit of dryness. Doesn’t really show the alcohol.

sampled on tap, i’ve had this a few times prior to this sample and have always been indifferent about this beer. very sweet malty with noticible alcohol. flavor isn’t really interesting either, dark fruits, rum, bread, yeasty. a little too boozy for only 8%.

Bottle; poured a copper color with large, frothy, off white head. Aroma was dominated by the familiar Unibroue yeast smell; also hints of fruit, dark fruit, and spice. Soft, almost creamy palate. Found the alcohol presence rather minimal. Flavor was a blend of fruit, spice, yeast and brown sugar. Slightly sweet overall. Flavor was good, but not exceptional.

Poured deep brown with a rich white head...smells yeasty, peppery, and lightly fruity...tastes very yeasty and malty at first, then sweet and tart...finished a little bitter and thick...another good one from Canada...
