Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Good beer!, it has a refreshing flavor, although it is incredibly strong!. Orange and it has a fruit flavor, but some say it has a wood flavor. I really liked it.

0.34 l bottle. Amber brown color with beige head. Sweetish, fruity, yeasty, candyish and berryish aroma with notes of vanilla and toffee. Sweet, yeasty and candyish flavor with tart fruitiness, licorice, vanilla and some biscuity notes. Strongly carbonated.

Rating # 2 Bottle 2005 Vintage (6 3 7 3 15) - A cloudy brown tea color with a rich tan head. The aroma has a light fruit (pear) element with spices and yeast. Dry and spiced complimented by honey, light fruits, and flowers. Rating #1 Bottle (6 3 7 3 14). A little too much Champagne like spritz on the palate. It tastes like a watered down version of a real Belgian. I get all the hints of the spiciness and Beligian essence, but generally get little flavor and diluted body. A Belgian on training wheels?

The color is the loveliest, most perfect red you can imagine, the color of Satan’s pajamas, and the head is bubbly, prickly, fantastically white. Aroma is largely spicy, utterly delightful, with additional notes of dark fruits, berries, currant, citrus, and a hint of flowers, plus a good helping of lemon. Good carbonation, and a massive deployment of hops upon the palate. The alcoholic component does not seem obvious at all, nay, it sneaks up upon you, as you innocently enjoy this delicious ale. Very smoth and tasty as anything on earth, heaven, or hell. Medium body, sufficient malt, but the hops are fully in charge here, and deliver the drinker into fully refreshing enjoyment. One of the best beers in the whole damned world!

Murky amber/brown coloured body with an off-white head which was large and lasted fairly well. Aroma was not too full until it warmed a little, slight pepper, spice and cocoa. Lovely malt mouthfeel in the taste followed by dried fruit, orange and alcohol. Medium body makes it very easy to drink.

Nice appearance, medium brown with a pretty, lasting, creamy head, a bit of haze. Aroma was unremarkable, just some Belgian yeast and sweetness. The flavor was also unremarkable. Nice, balanced, vaguely Belgian in nature, but nothing really jumped out beyond a house yeast flavor. Although I like the Unibroue yeast (reminds me of the DT's yeast), it isn't enough of a flavor to base a beer around. Well made, but sort of boring.

Nice orangish-amber color with a quickly dissapating light light tan head. Somewhat of a citrus-like aroma-maybe ginger as well? Palate has very low viscosity and isnt as thick as the other 2 unibroue’s ive had. There is notable carbonation-similar to trois pistoles. The flavor matches its aroma--not too strong, but you really have to work to pick out the mild hints. Finish is pretty smooth, without much of an aftertaste. 8% Ethanol is hid quite well.(8/4/8/4/16 4.0)------- 7/28/07-------& ounce bottle. Aroma is fruity, pineapple-like, estery one which is typical of the Unibroue yeast strain. There is a moderate spiciness present in the aroma. A few sweet hints are also detected retronasally. Moderately hazy amber-copper body present with a large, frothy, creamy off-white head present. It leaves some nice lacing. Spritzy, carbonated start which seems a little lacking flavorwise. The middle has plenty of roasted malts going on with a touch of yeast’s fruity esters. Pineapple. Finishes a bit spicy and has a nice, warming sensation. I don’t know, the flavor on this seems more subdued that I would care for. Above rating is for the re-rate.

10.11.04 750ml bottle. Dirty, rotten tangerine pour with creamy cream head. Strong yeast and old fruit bowl nose, Unibroue notes, dumpster. Something inside says this stuff shouldn’t be consumed; another voice screams loudly for a taste. Very nice palate is extremely smooth, lightly effervescent, bitter finish, lingering fruits and alcohol. Flavors are not as bold as I’d have liked, but everything seems in place. Lots of toffee, grape, cookie dough; hints of bubblegum, brown sugga, apple sauce. Finishes nice and dry, not as sweet as some BSAs. It’s good.
