Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

This beer poured out of the bottle with a wonderful citrus, spice aroma and a frothy white head that lasted throughout the glass. There are very complex malt flavors with strong fruity, spicey tones. This is a very warming beer and the 8% sneaks up on you. A very good beer.

Cloudy orange in color. Too cold to drink when I first got it out of the cooler, but once it cooled it was good. Thin body. Pleasant flavor. Enjoyable.

Highly malty and yeasty in both aroma and flavor. Somewhat mild for the style though, making it easier to drink than its cousin Le Fin du Monde. Very cloudy orangey-amber perhaps would be lighter if not for the plethora of suspended yeast. Very foamy. Lightly spicy and yeasty aroma. Fizzy palate with mild sweetness. Mild notes of berries. Yeasty finish. Not amazing but nicely estery.

Pours medium / dark amber with a slightly off-white fizzy head. The aroma has dark fruits (figs, concord grapes and dark cherries) and yeast. Medium / full bodied with some sharp carbonation. Taste has musty fruits, dark nectar, caramel sweetness, brown sugar and earthy yeast. The finish has a bit of spice with more caramel and lots of yeastness. I wish the body was more rich and firm, but other than that this is a fine beer.

Don't get confused by the canoe pictured on the label. This isn't "Sex in a Canoe" beer. Rich brown muddy color with a flowery malt nose and complex malty yeasty flavor. Smooth on the tongue with alcohol and sweetness in the finish. Another well made Unibroue product.

Bottle: Poured a brown with a off white huge head. Aroma is spice with some yeast. Taste is dark fruits with some spice. Finish is dry and very close to a Belgium made strong ale.

750ml. Pours a hazy dark copper with a rocky off-white head. Spicy, nutty, yeast aroma. Medium body and powerful carbonation. Creamy taste of spiced fruit with a clean, dry finish.
