Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

=i>330ml Bottle from Beers of Europe. This one had a super mad gush on opening. Poured cloudy and a little flat. Flavour was pretty easy on the tongue, malty, spicy and very Belgian like. This is somewhat bland, but would be a really nice every day drink, if it didn’t cost more in the UK than Belgian imports.

Bottle poured a hazy, copper-brown body with immense effervescence yet virtually no head. Interesting. A lot of alcohol up front in the nose: Brandy, with flowers, bread dough, banana and pear. Lightly sweet to begin with a sourdough yeastiness emerging, but an overall flat flavor. Medium-bodied and honey smooth.

Very good, nice alcohol content that wasn't noticeable. Spicey, dark ruby coloration, a real good beer.

75 cl.bottle with a 03-05-2005 drink by date. Has a hazy amber-orange color with a decent head. A peppery, spicey smell, medium bodied with a nice creamy mouthfeel. Taste is complex with sweets and spices; caramel, vanilla, cloves, black pepper, etc. A slight alcohol bitterness to finish reminds me of the brews potency. A nicely crafted brew that has aged well. Copper pour with a creamy head, yeast proteins visible. Spicy citrus aroma (oranges), slightly floral. Nice spice component dominates the malt, notes of orange, cinnamon sugary. Finish is very sweet and sugary but soft and well balanced...perhaps a bit too sweet as it warms.

Hazy orange with a beautiful creamy white head. Glass lacing is very nice also. Big fruity yeasty aroma. There are hints of dark fruit, plums and cherries. Flavor is sweet up front then some cherrt and bready malt. Medium body with an outstanding mouh-feel. Just enough thick syrupy feel balanced by a creaminess all followed up by a lightly dry finish. Overall a very nice beer. One of Unibroue's better efforts.

Poured a dark murky brown brew. The head was thick and opaque. The aroma was sweet, peachy, slight alcohol, belgian, raisin/grape, and slightly vinous. Tasted earthy, sweet, sour, and had some carbonation, mellowed dark fruit as well. . The palate was very carbonated. The finish was warm.
