Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

12oz bottle. Hazy and ruby brown. Bready, caramel nose. Woody and cola. Fruity and alcohol. Fruity and caramel sweet flavor. Lively and cloying. Sweet. Full bodied and nice alcohol burn. Slight coffee, bittersweet chocolate, raisin, port flavors. Sweet, yet whiskyish. Citrus and spice and pepper. Delicious!

75 cl bottle, from Ølkonsortiet in Aalborg.. Brown color, big off-white head. Malt, caramel, dark fruit and a bit citric. Balanced, but not very complex.

Not as good as the other Unibroue beers, but still worthy. A little too over the top on the yeasty flavors, but all is still well with this drink.

First off, all i can say is grapefruit. Would that make this a good morning beer ? Powerful, flavorful, perfect combo for a brew.

Bottle: Cloudy brown with a small beige head. Light Belgian spices in the aroma along with yeast, bananas, and a bready character. Tastes right on par with the aroma. Dry and lingering spices in the finish. Ehh, not overly stimulating.

pours a golden tan colour, with a very nice head, not to much lacing...has a nice bitterness to it, also good amount of sweetness, a good brew but a tad lower on the uni-lineup of beers..

Pretty, dark color with some fruit in the nose and sustained foam. Carmel and yeast in the effervescent body. Tastes stronger than 8%. I’m sorry to say but this has begun to define a new class for me -- ’Belgian-By-The-Book’ -- excellence diluted by replication.
