Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

poured the maudite into my duvel glass and it revealed a nice looking murky orange body with a white 2 inch head.the aroma handed me belgian yeast, and some caramel malts.i cant say i was impressed with the body.it was a bit thin for me.the flavor wasnt bad, boasting yeast, and some malts in the back.not bad but nothing special. (2005 BOTTLE RE-RATE IN JULY OF 2006)this had actually come around.seems like it has mended into a nice tasting belgian strong.

This is easily one of my favorite beers from Unibrou. This never fails to reach it’s mark. Aroma is sweet, slightly hopped, a bit hot. Nice dark appearance gives you that brooding feeling. Mouthfeel is full and hot. Flavor is alcohol, sweet, a bit spicy and always pleasing. Great during the Fall/Winter months. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a deep amber with a small head. Great mix of spices, fruit and yeast. A nice alcohol warmth is present, a great drink.

Light brown caramel coloured with some very light carbonation and a small white head. Sweet yeasty fruity caramel like aroma. Full palate with some sprankling. Finish is sweet, little burned with a touch of alcohol. Rather short but intensive ending. Very good.

Ruby-amber color with a medium off-whte head. Aroma has a nice yeasty-grape aroma with some spices detectable. Flavor is a nice malty-dark fruit mix with lots of yeast that seems to fall apart just a bit at the end. Pleasant, but a tad on the thin side. Overall, pretty good.

Interesting brew. Pours a cloudy caramel coloured body, with a thin beige head that just barely lurks around the edge of the glass. Aromas are fruity. Pear and apple come to mind. Also a slight spice aromas is present. Very appealing. Taste is of pears, and slightly spicy. Full bodied and smooth. A pleasure to drink. Unibroue certainly makes a great beer.

draught. Pours a murky, deep amber with a strong white head. Aroma is quite vinous, spiced with nutmeg, caramom. This is good stuff, a little honey, grapes, slight banana, the finish brings out some cloves. This is pretty soft and juicy for this style.

Bottle best before 3-25-07. Dirty muddy brown with 1 finger off white head. Huge dark fruit aroma, (prune/fig), hints of banana, very yeasty with faint alcohol in the background. Flavor again very yeasty with tons of fruit, mostly prune and banana, faint spice towards the finish. Great smooth/oily mouthfeel. Probably the smoothest Unibroue I’ve had, maybe the age has mellowed the carbonation a bit. Well done.
