Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

2004 Bomber. Mellow with some soft spices in the background. The bottle aging has really toned down this beer.

Beautiful brown body with a fluffy head. Aroma is malty, sweet, belgian sugar, plums, spice and yeast. Fruity, banana and cloves too. Flavor is sweet with mellow spice, banana, plum and brown sugar. This is on draft, have had many times in a bottle but this is just awesome. So smooth and delicious.

Orangy-brown colored with an off-white head. Plenty of fruit in the aroma with hints of malt and yeast. Flavor was fruity and slightly spicy. Very smooth. Another solid beer by Unibroue.

Great beer. Moments of fruit and moments of choclatey sweetness. A terribly easy to drink 8 percent.

Plastic sample cup at the Penn Museum. Murky orange gold. Sweet with some spice but not quite together. Light yeast. I like to see more assertiveness in a strong ale.

Bottle from brad. Pours a hazy dark orange almost caramel color. Fizzy white head dissipates at a standard rate. Nose is spicy cinnamon and fermented fruit. Taste is fizzy which perks the palate and contains some light sour fruit and spices.

Hazy dark orange/brown w/ large tan head. Yeast, orange peel, & coriander on the nose. Creamy feel but lots of carbonation as well. Sweet flavour w/ orange peel, coriander, alcohol. Finish is dry, mildly bitter & leave a nice little tingle.

I just picked this up from my local beer pusher, in her private. She just got Unibroue and i think this is one of the first bottles of Unibroue to be sold in Denmark... Yeehaw... Red to brown to amber body, with a nice white rocky head. The aroma is some malts and spices, nothing special there. The flavor is very spicy, some dark fruits and yeast, very subtle flavor. Highly carbonated and very decent brew.
