Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

33cl bottle at the Poet in Santa cruz, served in a Maudite tulip. Slightly hazy dark amber with a pretty good sized head. Aroma of fresh berries and some spice. Sweet and a little spicy, with a good yeastiness. Lots of brown sugar flavor ends slightly cloying in the finish, but ample carbonation does a good job of cutting through it. A little heavier on the body than I would like, but remains fairly drinkable. Didn’t rock my world, but was fairly enjoyable overall.

I was so surprized to see I hadn’t rated this one. A nice beer that is like a spicy double. Some nice soft fruits and sour/tart elements are mixed with clove and other spice. Alcohol is present but not overwhelming. Easy drinking and enjoyable.

Pours brown with a big froth that is shoirt lived. Slight malt nose. Bright, dry fruit flavors. Ample residual effers in the glass. Well ballanced. Tastes like they’re going for the Belgian Double style. Overall: Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommended.

Pours a redish brown with a thin head. Red apples, spices, and yeast fill the nose. In the mouth its very thin bodied, which makes this beer a lot weaker than it could be. Carmel, apple, pepper and corriander spices, and dough flavors quickly leave the palate. Not quite cutting it for me.

Pours an orangy red. Nice bit of fruit on the nose. Love the heavy carbonation, nice tight bubbles. Very well balanced taste. Certainly gives any belgian beer a run for its money. A truly great canadian beer, you simply cannot go wrong with any beers from this brewery.

Dark pour. Belgian aroma with a weightier feel. Dry mouthfeel, little aftertaste. Flavor up front is bitter. No sweetness which I expected. Re-rate 8/26/09. Pours heavy red with a murky appearance. Smell has a nice round of spice with a quick punch of heavy flavors. Mouthfeel boasts an immediate tingle which is cheerfully provided by the ABV. Taste is better than I remembered however I was but a tot when I tried it the first time. Slight improvement.

A very complex Belgian-style amber /brown ale. Apples, wheat, spices, lots of dark fruits, and rich, sweet malt. Nice balance of sour, sweet, and a touch of bitter. Rich and tasty.
