Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Pours a dark amber with a very nice head. Aroma is of fruit and yeast, mostly. Some spice. Taste is of apricot, plum, grape. Overall, a great beer that is both sip-able and sessionable.

Bottle poured a dark ornage high lighted body with an off white head. Lots of carbination, with a fruity nose. This was very nice, not a big abv taste which made it so smooth.

It’s been a little over a month since my last belgian ale, and this was a damn good one to come back to. Sweet, spicey aroma of dark fruit, orange, caramel, bananas, and bread. Pour is hazy orange with off-white creamy head and good lacing. Flavors of spice, banana, sweet malt, caramel, and dark fruit. Delicious.

I get fruits in the nose with this one. Some fruitiness in the taste also. Very complex. Very silky taste.

Nice. Soft texture even though initially it felt a tad (slightly) over carbonated. Subtle pepperiness and all the fruit and whatnot that might be expected in what is or was a great near-Belgian. Despite the Sleeman up there already, this one is prior to crimes committed.

Big hazy amber pour with a dramatic rocky head. Appetizing tart aroma with underlying graham cracker and caramel. Big bodied and spicy with a long complex finish. Very clean and exceedingly well balanced. Very coy in nature as a symphony of flavors reside under a crisp clean persona. An extremely well made ale.

(on tap, Map Room in Chicago). Nice orange color with complementary head. Fruity, but no citrus. I’m not a great Belgian fan, but I liked this a lot.
