Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

(on tap, Map Room in Chicago). Nice orange color with complementary head. Fruity, but no citrus. I’m not a great Belgian fan, but I liked this a lot.

Big hazy amber pour with a dramatic rocky head. Appetizing tart aroma with underlying graham cracker and caramel. Big bodied and spicy with a long complex finish. Very clean and exceedingly well balanced. Very coy in nature as a symphony of flavors reside under a crisp clean persona. An extremely well made ale.

Hazy orange with lots of tiny particles suspended throughout. Large, light white head initially, though it totally falls in under a minute. Citric (orange) and sweet malt aroma with spices (cinnamon especially) and ginger. Very spicy flavor: cinnamon, cloves, ripened plums and dates. Rather abrasive, the flavors seem to be all over the place. Highly carbonated.

75cl corked bottle. Pours out a hazy dark tan colour with an off-white head. Aroma seemed dusty. The body was well balanced with a spicy, malty flavour.

Bottle... Poured a dark burgundy/brown with a white head. Aroma was a little tart with fruit and spiced malts. Lots of carbonation on the palate. Fruity flavors with smoked, dark malts, jelly or jam and maybe cloves. A little metallic character and a slight alcohol burn in the finish.

Pretty good beer. Strong, and very complex flavors. Sweet, but not overly sweet at the same time. So many complex flavors to even begin to discuss.
