Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

A nice strong Belgian style Brownish in color. Pours well in a snifter. Definite hints of spice and apricots. One of the best beers to come out of Canada in quite some time.

Flowing rivulets of burnt chocolate, bananas in caramel and mixed nuts...Your palate, empassioned, becomes the Louvre hosting a flower exposition, as a plethora of virtuous and mysterious petals remain forever...One of the rare beers that has actually become better i.m.o...

A 10-year-old 1996 bottle has not aged gracefully at all...Its aroma is now feeble and oxidized, and flavors are of stale fruitiness and withered coriander...Nowhere near a 10-year-old Trois Pistoles...

Dark amber with a fine-grained white head. Citrus and spices, especially coriander and clove are obvious in the nose, as well as a bready and yeasty aroma. Flavour of raisin/dates and spices. Strong clove and bready yeast flavours. As the beer warms the coriander character becomes more apparent and a bit of alcoholic heat starts to sneak in. Similar to other Unibroue Belgian Strong Ales but still awesome.

Clear amber with a huge head. Alcoholic smell with peaches and lemons. Silky smooth but very harsh and alcoholic, feels musty. Palate is left syrupy.

Bottled. Slightly hazy, sedimented, golden beer with a beige head. Caramel, roast, candisugar, berries, spices and hints of alcohol in the aroma. Tea, candisugar, spices, hops, yeast and caramel in the flavor. Full-bodied and with a sweet mouthfeel. Long finish with alcohol, spices and bitterness. Very much alcohol-taste and finish for a 8% ABV beer, but not unpleasant. (060810)

Bottled @ DBF2004: Amber coloured. Off white huge head. Malty and fruity aroma. Fruity flavour as well with some vague alcahol notes. Is quite smooth and drinkable. Has a light bitterness in the end.

(34.1cl bottle) Hazy, dark amber colour with a big, off-white foamy head. Sweet, candied, slightly yeasty and fruity (dates, raisins) aroma, slightly toasted with zesty and herbal spice. Sweet, slightly sugary flavour, full bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel. Slightly yeasty, minimal-toasty and fruity taste with traces of caramel; moderately fruity and slightly toasty finish with residual malty sweetness and light spicy notes. Good one.

A hazy, reddish-gold color, Maudite has a strong fruity aroma and a doughy, yeasty taste. The alcohol is apparent. Very full-bodied, but leaves a bit too heavy of an old fruit flavor in the mouth.
