Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Bottle. Brown, cloudy with off-white, fizzy head. Aroma is slight yeast, coriander, and fruit. Similar flavor, spice makes it tingle on the tongue. Finish is soft with fruit (banana??) and alcohol in the aftertaste.

This is a great beer. It has complex fruity-spiciness. Balanced beer, the alcohol presence is there, but not too strong. Great on draft or in the bottle.

Robe orangée voilée surmontée d’une mousse blanche-beige qui s’estompe rapidement. Arômes d’orange, de malt caramélisé et de houblon aromatique. Saveurs de blé, d’alcool et de houblon amérisant.

Huge, foamy off-white head. Aroma is blend of fruit and spices — orange, pear, coriander. The flavor is a nice blend of sweet malts combined with light acidity and slight bitterness. Medium body is pitted with a lively carbonation which is pleasant on the palate. A moderate finish.

(Bottle) Pours a dark amber color with very little head. Aroma of yeast, toffee, and light biscuit. Exceptionally malty body, with caramel and some fruit (plum perhaps). Light spice, especially towards the aftertaste. Good palate. Low carbonation makes the mouthfeel smooth, and almost a little syrupy. Another enjoyable product from Unibroue.

Bottle: Poured a murky brown color with a fizzy off-white head. Smells of malts and fruit, particularly plums. Hoppy flavor with spices and light fruits detected. Medium body with a dry finish.

Rusty gold in color with a nice bite from the 8%abv. Smooth, though and flavorful. Gorgeous bottle, a must have for any label collector. Excellent beer overall.
