| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 23, 2005 Tad sour like some darks. Pepper, strong biting carbonation, much better on tap than in bottle. In bottle, more of Unibroue yeast. Medium to watery mouthfeel. Spice with some malt aftertaste, similar to a cola. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 10, 2005 Updated: Aug 26, 2005Draught. at BeerBistro. Poured a darkish, hazy, somewhat bubbly, copper-amber with a decent slightly off-white head. Aroma was initially alcohol-sharp, giving way to an active melange of yeast, sweetish roast malt, spices (coriander), and citrusy hop notes. Flavour followed the nose, but introduced tart berry fruit, more malty, a bit of woodiness, and the alcohol reasserted itself. Mouthfeel was a bit fizzy and alcoholic - starts lively and somewhat sweet, finishes slow and more balanced, but not harsh or bitter. I’ve had vintage (2 & 3 years old) Maudite on tap before, and it develops more complexity with age - a very good strong beer, one of Unibroue’s best main sequence beers. Appearance: murky dark amber with hint of red. Large frisky creamy pillow like top. 4+ Nose: Clean nose. Blend of yeast, caramel malt, assorted fruits, Belgian spice and smooth alcohol. 7+ Flavor/Palate : Medium full bodied. Lighter front with blend of raw green bitterness, yeast, alcohol. Together those parts cooperate gracely. Ending in smooth Belgian strong ale way. You know alcohol is present but it’s not pushy as in many American Strong Ales. Solid brew.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 29, 2002 Med brown color, small head. Heavy malts and hops, malts are slightly sour and spicy. Large body. Mouthfeel is fluffy (carbonated). Finish is spicy and slightly sweet. Aftertaste has an almost perfume-like sweetness to it, yet slightly sour and bitter. Very different beer. jerc (3954), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Sweet yeasty aroma, mild spice. (7+) Alcohol grows as it warms, sweet malt flavour, mild yeast, dry alcohol in the finish (7+) Average plus palate. (3+). This was to be my definitive re-rate but I ended up talking instead of writing so I will hopefully come back to this again. 8/3/8/4/16 - 3.9 Bottle at C’est What
<P>July 2003. More mellow and complex than I remember previous tastings. I notice the spice and the malt predominantly with lots of interesting subtexts beneath it. 8/3/8/3/16 - 3.8 Rciesla (3845), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 29, 2009 Bottle, and a demonic looking one at that. Pours a hazy amber body with an off white head. Typical yeast character, spices, and over ripe fruit. Etoh is a bit more subdued here. Some lighter cinnamon notes or cloves give this a nice spiced finish. Another good one. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 28, 2003 Updated: Oct 13, 2004The aroma of this brew was hard for me to make out. It's initial pour yielded an invigorated head of small white bubbles that left no lacing and has a cloudy light brown color. My first taste had an initial uh oh reaction but later settled into flavor that I could not identify. Not sure how to rate the taste of this brew. Not a bad taste, but not great. After a while I could taste the alcohol content of this brew. Perhaps 3 good brews in a night is too much for good ratings! Hmmmm.... Grovlam (3825), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Mar 4, 2007 Bottle. Appearance was large thick foamy white head that mostly lasted. Nice lacing. Body was slightly cloudy with a copper-red hue. Aroma was overwhelming sweet peach in a nice way. Some vanilla, Belgian spice and yeast, orange, cinnamon. Medium to full bodied, it is surprisingly smooth in texture with some alcoholic notes to be felt in mouth. Average carbonation. Flavor was moderated sweet, with some sharp bitter notes, maybe caused by the alcohol. Slightly dry and fruity finish. Excellent beer in my book!
