Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

12 oz bottle. Body is dark brown with stuff floating around. Aroma is malt and yeast. Taste is pretty good, malt and yeast as well, maybe? Very good.

I bought this as a single bottle in a local store. I thought it was very good canadian beer. I enjoy a good Ale and I thought this was great.

Another fantastic Unibroue beer. This is probably my favorite of the Unibroue’s because of the wonderful mouthfeel and pleasant palate that comes after every sip. The 8% alcohol is an added treat in that you get a very "heady" buzz after 1 or 2 beers. One of my top 5!

On tap at Mile Square in Hoboken. I was iffy about this beer to begin with, not because i had heard anything bad about it, but because i typically don’t like Canadian beer. This is completely different though. It has the sweetness i love, while being really well-balanced too. If you can get this, try it. I’m pretty sure that you’ll love it.

Pours dark brown with large brown head. Aroma of spice with a woodsy hint. Great taste, palate, and finish. So far my favorite.

Pours a dark brown color with a large off-white head. The flavor is immensely complex, it starts with sweet malt with a bit of bite, and finishes softer with some fruit and hop notes. Another wonderful brew from Unibroue, highly recommended

Draft at Oldsmar Tap House. Excellent strong ale and surprised this is not Belgian. Flavors are a perfect balance of spice, clove, and apricot. Strength is just right. Pours brown-orange with a nice head.

This is a great beer. It has complex fruity-spiciness. Balanced beer, the alcohol presence is there, but not too strong. Great on draft or in the bottle.
