Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

A wonderful beer. Pours creamy with medium head, low lace. Aromas of spice and nuts. Attack is electric, like licking a battery, mellows to a warm caramel flavor, finish is very nice and mild. Just a touch of linger to it. A wonderful beer.

Une exellante bière forte avec une bonne mélange de saveur d’épice et de caramel. Pour dégustation seulement.

If you like a strong Belgian. Hoppy and malty in excellent balance. Fermented in the bottle on a yeast base. Great young. Really Great in two or more years.

In Unibroue terms, Trios Pistoles meets Don de Dieu. Reminded me very much of a Belgian Strong Ale-Weissber combo of some sort. Pretty apricot color with a large, rapidly fading head. Nose is rich, lots of citrus, cola, and nutmeg. Flavors of butterscotch, cream, lemon, and maybe something like peanut butter? Very fizzy brew, makes the tongue tingle. Very enjoyable.

The first real beer I ever had, so it holds a special place in my heart! Overwhelmingly flavorful, it changed my perception of what beer is. Very fruity and spicy and aromatic. It will warm your throat.

I was really suprised with this stuff. I randomly pull it out of a cooler at a UCLA football game and said to myself...’What the hell is this shit!?!’ My brothers, friends, and I thought the label was the coolest thing ever. Anyway, when I drank it and was expecting something nasty it turned out to be very good! Most importantly, it was my first beer, so I was in perfect sense. Sadly, I have no idea where I could possibly find more of this stuff.

This beer has a captivating bright red color with copper highlights and an off-white head. The head dissipates quickly, but lingers the entire glass and leaves a nice lace. The aroma is sweet and rather like a fine merlot. The taste is exquisite, without a trace of alcohol. Maltiness is evident, and a fruity sweetness is present in the finish. I can mainly taste ripe plum, but I am reminded of a good sweet red wine. The best (or perhaps worst) characteristic is it is a pleasure to drink.
