Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Cloudy appearance, seemed quite bubbly, yet easy on the palate.

Good belgian. Pours with a large, frothy egg white head, which fairly quickly completely dissipates. There is no lacing. Color is reddish golden. Flavor is spicy, yeasty. An excellent example of the sytle.

Orange/brown color, small white head that faded quickly but left behind a decent lace. The aroma was fruity, sweet and maybe just a touch sour with a decent raisin like hint as well.Very nice flavor of fruit and malt medium sweet with a nice carbonation to make all the flavors dance on the pallate.I know the alcohol is there but not very strong, but fairly well hidden with just a light warming as it goes down.Very nice brew and i have to Thanks Mr_K for sending this one my way.

Wow! Im impressed by this one. I had always seen it in the store, but finally broke down and got it at a bar in Houston. Had the traditional belgian nose...spices and fruits took over, hints of alcohol in the finish....well done!

this beer reminds me of autumn, the color of changing leaves and apple butter. medium, consistent head. slightly cloudy after adding yeast. aroma is full of apples and burnt fruit (raisins, apricots). tingling mouthfeel, although a little bit thin. quite complex flavor, tart, full of spice, and a touch of astringency. definitely in your face. finish is dry and slightly alcoholic. not perfect, but very enjoyable.
