Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Fantastic! Go Unibroue! * Had this at a beer club meeting with many other beers, hence I don't remember all my comments - only the ratings which I wrote down at the time.

A truely impressive speciman. Very cloudy sunset orange with a second to none pleasantly fizzy head. Multiple fruit nectars apparant in nose and mouth. Outstanding across the board.

Excellent brew. Very taste either from bottle or tap. So much flavor, great feeling. Nice murky brownish red color. Good sweetish malty taste with very well hidden alcohol. Must try!!! Excellent beer!!!

Maudite was my first Belgian Strong, and it was love at first taste. Beautiful deep brown, with a huge lacy head. I couldn’t detect the ABV it was so smooth. Rich fruity, sweet flavor lasted after each swallow. This is an excellent desert beer.

This is one of my standbys. It's got a great fruit scent. the taste is a little spicy with a fuity flavor. pretty high alcohol percentage, something I always have to make myself remember when drinking this ale.

Une exellante bière forte avec une bonne mélange de saveur d’épice et de caramel. Pour dégustation seulement.

Absolutely outstanding. Dark amber color, fruity / raisin notes, a bit heavy.

Unibroue consistently brews a high-quality product. And by high, I mean Himalayan. Maudite for me is no exception, possibly even my current favourite of their year-round offerings.

Appearance: A cloudy copper-red.

Aroma: A bouquet of sugar, cloves, and dark cherries.

Taste: Wheat, perhaps something akin to a faint peanut brittle...I can’t resist simply calling it, "ambrosia."

Palate: spritzy and quenching. As the Unibroue people describe it themselves, a cognac-like finish.

Overall: What a brew! This one is great all by itself. Also try it with hearty foods that otherwise might get the chianti or merlot treatments: pasta, tomato-based dishes, red meat (beef stew!), or artisanal pizza. A clear winner all-around.
