Nose is orange, apricot, honey. Flavor of honey, peppery yeast, apricot, orange peel. Fairly sweet and malty. Finishes crisp, flowery, and light. Alcohol is mildly and pleasantly present. As it warms a funky, musty cheese flavor comes towards the end of the swallow. I love it love it love it. tomdubbin (1), Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Oct 22, 2004 This is one beautiful beer. I first tried it while on vacation with my girlfriend in Quebec. I had heard good things so I decided to try it. It has now become my all time favorite beer.
Theres no greater feeling than popping the cork off a large bottle of Maudite. The crisp sound of cork is a taste of things to come.
The beer pours Mahogany coloured, and it’s aroma is next to none. The aroma is yeasty and mouthwatering. The head is a good size, and doesnt stick around to long either. The palate is a smooth texture rich texture and the taste is a complex blend with a perfect arrangment of yeasty, spicey, and fruity tastes. At 8% alc. it’s a fairly strong brew, but you hardly notice is as the alcohol is mostly masked. This is a blessing in some ways, just don’t try to stand up too fast after you’ve had a generous amount of Maudite.
All in all, best beer I’ve ever had. The label is beautiful too, and has an entire legend behind it. It makes a great conversation piece aside from a beautiful bottle. Unibroue has done it again! SayNoToCoors (65), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA

When I first drank it, it was a bit cold and it tasted just like New Belgiums Abbey (which to me is so-so). I was slightly disapointed, but that all ended once I let the beer warm up a bit. Once it warmed all of the nice spicey/fruity tones started to pull forward. Also, this beer is a moderate 8% but everytime I drink it I seem to catch a good buzz quite quickly when compared to other 8%+ brews. I really enjoyed the authentic belgian style head this beer produces when poured. I like. Aroma fights between spices and toffee. Wonderfully smooth on the palate. This beer has great flavor.Good desert beer for after a meal. Taverner (891), San Ramon, California, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 18, 2008 The first time I had this beer was 5 years ago. The bottle was a birthday gift from my ex.father.in.law. He siad he thought it was a cool label. I do not think he knew what the meaningof the name was. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown. White foamy head. Aroma of belgian yeast, figs, dates, rich malt. Very complex scent. Flavor is a strong bodied malt. Lots of dark dried fruits. More complex flavors than in the aroma. Wow. Overall this bottle reminds me of a heavy doppelbock made with a belgian yeast. Happiness in a warm glass. I could have a tap of this in the house and never leave again.
