curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jun 16, 2009 Pours hazy brown with a bulbous off-white head. Aroma is yeast, tart cherry, lemon, and more mild sweet fruits-apricot, raisin, plum. Taste is a mellow dark fruit, vanilla, toffee, not sour, no bitterness, just sweet smooth and creamy. Very delicious, finishes with a very soft bitter roast and the alcohol is hardly noticeable but there just enough. I love to let this sit for about an hour and then come back to it for a less carbonated drink. NDbeerdrinker (164), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jun 14, 2009 Pours a dark brown with a caramel head that goes away quickly and there are a lot of large particles floating around. Aroma is yeast, spices, grapes, cherries. Very sweet, cherries, grapey-wine taste. Definitely can taste the similarities to a port. Interesting stuff, and a good dessert beer. bobbypaulson (100), , Minnesota, USA Jun 11, 2009 750ml pours a murky brown almost black with a lot of floaties. It has a gray head which doesn’t stick around very long. Smell of fruit and some vanilla. The taste is smokey and fruity with a very light after taste really can’t taste the alcohol. This beer I will definitely drink many more times. OzarkElmo (117), Poplar Bluff, Missouri, USA Jun 9, 2009 12 oz. bottle into tulip. Pours a very dark, murky brown with moderate beige head which mostly dissipates. Thin lacing throughout. Very, very pleasant aroma of dark fruit (raisin, fig, plums), slight caramel and vanilla, wood and hint of alcohol. Also well-carbonated throughout. Wonderful flavor and excellent finish of dark fruit. Yes, it has a kick but to me is well hidden. It is enticingly smooth & mellowfor its style and ABV. Yeast formations remain with head. Getting better as I partake of this great beer - a rival to the trappists IMO and cannot wait to have my 2nd - Cheers! DiabolikDUB (143), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 9, 2009 Poured from Bottle into Snifter glass.
Pours a deep murky dark-brown with a booming slightly off-white head that is very bubbly and quickly dissolves to create a nice layer across the glass. The aroma is full of fresh berries with some yeast and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is sweet plums, slight bready malts and some dried fruits which I’m having a hard to naming. Its a very light beer and more than efficiently carbonated. Even before I knew what good beer was all about, this beer had me hooked from the first time. Extremely enjoyable. RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Jun 7, 2009 Outstanding effort from Canada. Pours chocolate brown, almost opaque, with a thick, enduring head. Solid retention and intricate lacing all the way down. Aroma is of cherries, yeast, and certainly some alcohol. Some fruity flavors - raisins, plums, figs - and yes, more alcohol.
arbonation that dances on the tongue, smooth, silky mouthfeel. Lingering aftertaste of dark fruit.
bblack99 (195), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jun 6, 2009 Heavily carbonated pour with a bubbly white head that lasts for literally seconds before disappearing entirely with very little lacing.
Brownish burgundy pour with a nose of yeast and fruits. Flavor is strongly dominated by raisins and plums, which is not at all expected (nor pleasant).
Overly fizzy, overly fruity, and overly slick. Consider me unimpressed, Canada. Cirrhosis (607), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 5, 2009 Massive popping sound came from the cork when opened (scared me a little) dark mahogany body almost completely black, huge rocky head with descent retention and spotty lacing. Caramel, vanilla, grapes, wood and a nice alcohol presence warm the nose as the aroma is taken in, very pleasant indeed. Sour and rich tasting, wood, nuts, red wine, and the typical Unibroue yeast comprise the flavor. The 9% alc. Content is hidden will but is noticeable, the brew is light to medium bodied and maybe slightly over carbonated the taste finishes with a mild bitterness. Very enjoyable and high quality, this brew is just one of the reasons Unibroue is highly sot after.
