sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA Apr 13, 2009 pours dark copper/auburn with a good sized white head. aroma is yeasty, rich roasted malts, sweet red fruits, some spice and caramel come through. drinks smooth and sweet with dark red fruit, cherries, roast malt, a nice spice i cant put my finger on. yeast, sweet roasted malts, and alcohol finish this. very nice. PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Apr 11, 2009 Draught at C’est What, Toronto. It’s dark amber red, lightly carbonated, with a thin cream coloured head. If I were pouring this myself from a bottle the head would be a lot bigger. The aroma has lots of wonderful cherry, some clove and orange, caramel. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and very inviting. I taste dark cherry, red grapes, plenty of grain, caramel, some tea, clove, alcohol. Dacrza (245), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Apr 10, 2009 Yet another treat from the October case... a fragrant yeast grabs the nostrils with that Belgian crispness distinctive to Unibroue... thick, dark body with an equally thick yet diminishing off-white head--substantial and worthy of its label... a mellow, even body--quite surprising--with a soft, retreating aftertaste that makes the drink that much more enjoyable.... a pleasant, refreshingly light mix of Belgian hops and something darker that makes this a perfect after dinner desertif. Something sweetly mingles with the beerish properties to bless Trois Pistoles with a light yet filling end. And where is the 9% alcohol? Perfectly placed somewhere, I believe...I could use the word "perfect" a few more times, but one gets the picture... BillyMidnight (41), Alberta, Canada Apr 8, 2009 Best served only slightly below room temperature at 1:45 a.m. in a basement bookstore surrounded by bohemians in silly hats while flirting with a lazy-eyed tarot card reader in a black dress. Comes off overall like a good Belgian Dubbel, with strong port notes. Has a hint of hazelnut flavour comparable to Schloss Eggenberg Samichlaus Bier, only much more mellow and complex, like good jazz music. This is not a beer; it’s a lifestyle choice. mouse725 (74), Albany, New York, USA Apr 5, 2009 I definitely get the "port" aspect they were going for- an oaky and red berry/wine grape brew. Very smooth, could benefit from some more carbonation in my opinion.Had a malty-fruit finish that stuck with you awhile. High ABV is evident in "sticky sweet" flavour throughout. FatPhil (3442), Espoo, Finland Apr 5, 2009 Initially on pouring there’s a sharp woody winey aroma. In the glass it’s a deep reddy brown, quite a fizzy complection. Aroma mellows down to something more raisiny and with perhaps just a hint of chocolate. Lively carbonation, but not aggressive. Old and aromatic in the mouth - wooden casks fresh from being emptied of fortified wines or brandies, and also fruity - raisin, cherry, plum, even some almond. Upon swallowing there’s quite a bite of richly roasted malts, and a tingle of biting noble hops. Some alcohol creeps through, but it’s remarkably light for a 9% beer - not sticky and thick at all. Sherbetty finish, roasted too, more fruits, and long biting hops. KornDogg (168), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 4, 2009 malty and fruity flavor... strong warming power but well balanced...alcohol is well hidden...helps make Unibroue one of my fav breweries baraciisch (138), USA Apr 1, 2009 Sweet yeasty aroma like a Belgian dubbel... Dark brown to black in color with a slight light tan head... Light crisp sweet flavor with a yeasty kind of bitter finish... Some definite floral notes... Alcohol content is decently concealed... Hints of cinnamon as well... Pretty good beer considering I’m coming back from Belgium...
