Birdiebeagle (778), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 2, 2009 Bottle Pours a murky dark brown with a tan head. Nutty toffee and spices fill the aromas. Taste is nutty and carmel. Very good mouthfeel and very smooth. This is really good. Has a very interesting finish. I wiould drink this one over and over. tarheels86 (703), Washington DC, USA Jan 30, 2009 330 mL. Can’t believe I haven’t rated this yet. Pours a deep brown almost black with a one-finger tan head that sticks around as a thin layer for most of the drink. Tossed the yeast in on this one. Very little to no lacing. Aroma is the typical Unibroue musty yeast plus some black cherries, spice, raisins. Taste is bubbly up front with black cherry soda that moves quickly to spiced rum. Finish is cardboard with a little too much yeasty dryness but that may be my fault. This is lacking the complexity I tasted the first time I had this. Maybe I’m becoming more snobby but this is not the beer I remembered. tturner (103), , Washington, USA Jan 28, 2009 pours like a pepsi. dark and lots of foam. yeasty, apple, very subtle hints of nutmeg and allspice. very complex. not a huge fan of the style, kind of a doubel or trippel, but very complex and enough to keep me exploring from mouthful to mouthful. hobbersr (393), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Jan 27, 2009 Pours a murky dark brown with a large off-white head. You can really smell the unibroue yeast in this one, that’s not a bad thing. Aroma is of banana, anise, plums, caramel, bready notes, spice, and dried fruits. Tastes of plum, anise, bready notes, that unibroue yeast, caramel, some berries, dried fruit and banana. One of my favorites. Really good beer!! floydian1 (255), FNQ, Australia Jan 26, 2009 Updated: Jan 28, 2009Corked 750ml bottle into Trappist glass. A hazy dark mahogany ale with a healthy beige head. Nutty toffee aromas predominate with added warming spicy notes and a hint of liquorice. The flavour is mellow fruity molasses with subtle caramel late overtones. The finish reminds me of a mulled red wine. It has an excellent smooth rich velvety mouthfeel. Definitely one to sip and savour. halfonit (423), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA Jan 24, 2009 A beautiful hazy, deep dark brown color. Definitely has a burnt malt scent with hints of cherries and what seems to be coffee. Taste has that complex yeast flavor that I love from this company. Also has malts with a little bit of a sweet ending. Another good brew from Unibroue. Good job guys. vacantskies (79), Spokane, Washington, USA Jan 23, 2009 Pours dark with a frothy head. The body is a dark burgundy. It has a rich woody aroma. It has a pleasant malty taste. timmy300 (199), bloomington, Illinois, USA Jan 23, 2009 tastes like sweet red wine and dried apricots with the signature unibrew yeasty goodness. big, big beer with a very slight tart finish.......nice........oh yeah, hint of chocolate
