assman (2), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA does not count Dec 5, 2008 Found this in the unibroue variety pack at our local store. Even better then La fin du monde. Absolutely fantastic. Wonderful belgian. Even better than mountain creek. Enjoy. RIXbeer (102), USA Nov 28, 2008 Dark Brown Mahogany color with 2+ inches of head that fades very very fast into a mere millimeter. Damn I know what a millimeter is. Plum, raisin, lightly spiced rum or maybe even brandy with a hint of burnt charcoal. And of course that undeniable whoft of that weird Unibroue water. Smooth hop and malt balance that is accentuated by an unsweetened fruit and caramel flavor along with a grainy, dry spiciness. Every sip has a kick of lively carbonation in the front of the mouth that fills every inch from cheek to cheek. Very fizzy in the back of the throat. It is good. Not awesome but very good. This beer is drinkable in a four pack. I would, could and have and will again drink this wondrously magic brew from the crazy canucks up above me. My favorite from these guys Borresteijn (1349), Amstelveen, Netherlands Nov 27, 2008 Bottle @ home. Deep dark brown-red colour, beige head. Aroma is almost like St. Bernardus Abt, yeasty, lots of dark fruits, caramel and a bit flemish ale like. Flavour is sharp, glue, plums and raisins, caramel, alcohol. Prickly carbonation. Malty aftertaste. A bit too harsh in flavour to my liking. Homer321 (127), Rockledge, Florida, USA Nov 27, 2008 Aroma is very complex and full of fruitiness. Probably one of the most complex noses I have seen. color is burnt brown with a light head that is large bust dissipates quickly. alcohol is evident by the legs of lacing. tatse is warming, fruity, sugar-y, while finishing dry - leaves you wanting more. The high ABV is hid very well. Overall, an above average beer - but why the twist off cap!?!? WTF otakuden (518), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Nov 27, 2008 I have a consummate love affair with Unibroue and their beers, and I am not afraid to admit it. I would like to think that she loves me as much as I love her, and together we make the perfect couple. Or, this could all be just a dream and someday I shall awaken to find myself trapped in a world where no brewery by the name of Unibroue exists. Hopefully, such a nightmare will never occur. I can’t say for sure, but I believe that their Trois Pistoles was their very first beer I ever tried, and which sealed our fate. Literally, it translates to Three Pistols, and if I recall even more, I picked it up because the name was cool and the cover was gorgeous. Besides their beautiful beers, Unibroue also manages to have some of the most striking label art used on a beer bottle. She poured a dark brown glinting with hues of rusty garnet where the light peeks through. A soft head lurks quietly, drifting off into a thin layer while marking her trail with delicate notes of lace. I raise my glass, and a sweet nose of grain, caramel, malts, and rich fruit greets me. Apples, peaches, berries, and dates are just some of the ripe fruit coloring her nose and hopefully her palate. As is the case with most bottle conditioned beers, her mouthfeel and body is soft and velvety smooth while a refreshing effervescence lets her practically float on top of my tastebuds. Warm and with a lingering alcohol presence which rests at the back of my mouth. Rich winter spices compliment the sweet prunes, raisins, peaches, apples, and melons which help define her palate. Do not be fooled though, for beyond all those delicious fruit essences are a rich malty finish with soft notes of pumpernickel and brandy. Nearing the end of my glass, lightly acidic lemon tingles with a bright presence, keeping Trois Pistoles from being too overbearing. Trois Pistoles was probably my first Unibroue beer and still, to this day, is one of my favorites. But then, I have many favorites in the world of Unibroue, so it is not really a fair comparison. If you don’t believe me, then sit down with a few different beers, and then try to pick a favorite. What I do know is that I shall have another, please. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 19, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Naka. Pours brown.black with amber hues and fizzy beige head. Nose of raisin, cherry, fig and brown sugar. Some bright apple notes as well. Brown sugar and caramel flavor with raisin and dates, some bright apple notes. Mouth puckeringly dry with mild bitter. Alcohol flavor and mild heat at the end and into the after. Pretty tasty. Has the unibroue yeast flavor throughout. A bit thin, decent carb and good flavor soverall. Nice alcohol bite. It’s a repeater. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Nov 19, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy dark chestnut with a few scattered bubbles for a head that quickly disburse. Pleasant aroma of malt, dates, raisins and molasses. The flavor is similar with again malt, dates, raisins and molasses all present. The flavors are a tad watered down and seem tired. I received this as a gift, so perhaps this was an older bottle. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Oct 31, 2008 (small bottle, labeled best before 3/15/08, uh oh, this could be interesting) Pours dark brown with a white spotty head and little to no lacing. There is still ample carbonation. Aroma, hmmm, smells kind of like a pizza box, which tells me that this may be past its prime. Also smelling some sausage spices, such as oregano and pepper, but I’m not sure how much the pizza box scent is affecting that. Swirling reduces these odd smells, and brings out the port-like character that is posted in the description. Further warming starts to dull this cardboard scent, the aroma has greatly improved, and roasted malt makes its presence known. There’s also just a slight hit of tartness as well. Taste is lightly medicinal, with some dark fruits, caramel, and a finish that is lightly peppery and yeasty. Plum skin is also rather prevalent now in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium, and the carbonation is still quite lively on the tongue. The cardboard-like aroma really threw me off in this beer, and it definitely seems to be past its prime. I’ll have to re-rate a fresher sample again.
