Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

750ml bottle from BevMo. Near black and barely translucent in appearance with cherry accents when put to light. Audibly fizzing with a mossy and tan head. Aroma is one of a kind, with Fruity Pebbles, grapes, currant, black cherries, liquor-lacquered chocolate cherry cordials, prune juice, pepper and nutmeg. Rich and expressive flavor. Chocolate, cloves, pepper and figs invigorate while a wrap-around fruity nature comprised of plums and chocolate covered strawberries pull at the heart strings. Some cherry pipe tobacco and a spicy complex akin to Christmas (cranberries, orange peel and nutmeg.) Effervescent, but not over the top. Titillating on the palate. Balance speaks for itself, finishing with chocolate raspberry liqueur and a lasting holiday spice that sings its song long after each sip.

Pours a very dark, almost opaque, copper-brown with an extremely thick, foamy, long-lasting off-white head. Strong aroma of Belgian yeast and sweet fruit. Sweet, fruity taste. You don’t really get much of the alcohol flavor until the aftertaste, along with some malt and toffee hints. A tingly, carbonated mouthfeel. I won’t often say this, but this one could have probably been better with a little lower alcohol content. Still, a very, very good beer.

Very dark beer, poured straight into my glass and it almost overflowed with foam. Taste is smooth and similar to a good tasting wine but better. No bad taste at all. great beer.

Bottled. You can smell the alcohol right from the start. This combined with the fruit flavors is interesting. This pours a dark read brown with a highly carbonated head of creamy brown color. The flavors fall hand and hand with the aroma, fruits of cherry plum and possibly apricot, the crisp bite of herbs and alcohol. Smooth on the tongue, and the flavor lingers. This is one of my new favorites.

Had this in a bottle at Bailey’s Chocolate Bar in STL. Poured with a brown-reddish color and rather quickly disapperaing reddish head. The aroma was typically Belgian with sweet yeasty aroma combined with some plum and other soft dark fruits. There was little hop aroma and flavor. Flavors of mildly sweet fruits came through in the flavor as well as it eased into the finish. I almost seemed to cleanse the palate with each sip and made for an excellent dessert drink. I was shocked to see the 9% printed on the label. I had it with the most decadent brownie and ice cream which may have given this this beer the opportunity to offer a nice cleansing contrast.

Bottle. Pours a hazy reddish brown colour with a tan head. Aroma is very yeasty and a bit fruity (sweet dried fruits). Flavour is very yeasy (and herby). It also has some earthy notes, some tartness and a harsh taste. But primarily this beer is yeasty. You can feel the alcohol in the finish. I think this beer will be so much better after some years in the cellar.

Very port-like beer. Deep aroma of dark fruits and sweet malt. Solid flavor of plums, figs and a wine sweetness. Very carbonated. Very good example of a Belgian and definitly enjoyable as an after-dinner or sipping beer in front of a fire.
