I tried this beer on January 17, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe’s" in Toronto. I’ve been trying to get a hold of this for a while but it has been rather elusive. The beer poured a dark brown, with a thick creamy tan coloured head that lingered a few minutes. The aroma was sweet malt, some yeast, some dark fruit, and some spices. The mouthfeel was creamy, full-bodied, with high carbonation. The flavour was malty, sweet, yeasty...with a little licorice. greedycheater (80), Oklahoma, USA

Pours dark with a small, quickly diminishing head, good lacing. Aroma is yeasty and appetizing. Full-bodied, mild lingering after taste. Very good. bbarbot (5), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 6, 2008 Several reviewers have remarked on the fruity qualities of this beer, but I think they are a bit overstated - this is not a fruity brew by any stretch, although the references to port are apt (I personally don’t think of good port as being particularly "grapey" - it has a character of its own). Rich, caramelly, malty, and pleasantly roasted; tremendously well-balanced for such a relatively high-ABV brew. This is a classic, cold-weather strong ale. Highly recommended, and one of my favorites both of the genre, and in general. Nice job, Unibroue! princesslala (37), North Carolina, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 5, 2008 This beer is a tawny brown. It pours with a bubbly head like a soda. The smell is malty and sweet and there is a slight, very slight grapey smell. The bubbles tickle my mouth as I drink it. The taste is pleasantly roasty without being burnt or bitter. It has the flavor of a nice sweetbread and a bit of a creamy, doughy mouthfeel and would be a perfect pairing with some Moravian sugar cookies. IPAGargoyleGuy (139), Troy, NY, New York, USA

I like this beer, it has a good taste and aroma which is kinda fruity but still quite delicious. moelikebeer (219), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
