oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Mar 1, 2008 Pours molasses brown with magnanamous, boistrous frothy head. Aroma was very strong of caramel malt and a hint of fermented raisin and dark fruit- almost grapelike. Mouthfeel was crazy smooth given the 9% ABV. Rich, pillowy and oily palate that lingers on the tongue. Flavor is powerful and pronounced- and despite this fact, you literally can’t taste the alcohol. Caramel, molasses and raisin dominate the flavor. This beer is just plain delicious and rediculously well balanced. rob6239 (25), Ontario, Canada Mar 1, 2008 This pours a dark caramel colour with a white head but is surprisingly sweet and fruity. craftycarl21 (510), South Hero, Vermont, USA Feb 29, 2008 aroma is subtle but very pleasant. Pours a dark chocolate brown with a hint of toffee coloration on the edges. Boisterous head, laced the edge of the glass as it dissipated. Flavor has elements of a typical english strong, but is so much more-- nuttiness, hint of caramel, fruity undertones. Great palate, sticks to the tongue, and is absurdly smooth for a 9% ABV beer. absolutely fantastic overall. oreogobbler (216), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 29, 2008 Pours a dark golden brown to jet black, non transparent, thin creamy bubbly head. Apricots, grapes, spice, yeast, alcohol, and golden raisins in the aroma. Flavor: Spiced fruit, caramel, and classic unibroue yeast flavor. Palate is smooth, thick, and creamy. Not they’re best, but good all the same. tnkw01 (124), USA Feb 29, 2008 Pours an amber color with a vanilla ice cream colored head. Fantastic pleasant aroma, smells very fruity. Flavor has slight spicy pear taste with just the right amount of malt. Palate has a slight tinge of vanilla. Overall, a great beer. My favorite Canadian beer! lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Feb 27, 2008 Pours dark amber brown color with off white head. Beautiful aroma: plum, cherry, candied sugar, belgian yeast, rasin, breadiness, some spice, vinous notes. Flavor reminds me of a fruit roll-up with yeast. Slightly spicey, slightly sour, and the sweetness is not overpowering. Maybe some chocolate coming through as well. Palate is a little sticky with a fairly creamy body. Has always been one of my go-to beers and its a wonder its taken me this long to rate it. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Feb 26, 2008 Purs dark brown. Frothy head. Aroma of dark cherries and raisins. Has a vineous quality. Taste is very complex and well balanced. Had it one day after Trappistes Rochfort 10, and it doesn’t shrink in the comparison. Exceptional beer. HUNTERNFLA (25), USA Feb 25, 2008 DARK BEER WITH A SWEET TASTE SMELLS OF FRUIT LIKE RASINS AND GOS DOWN WARMAND SMOOTH
